Message: Took my 2001 5.9 QC to the dealer 3 times for an "engine light" problem.
I explained to the first two mechanics I dealt with that I had done several mods to my truck. (TB, Headers, Jet chip, Asp underdive pulley, 180 thermo, K&N, Cat back etc). These guys told me that the mods I had made would not generate "trouble codes"
I was getting some a "leak detection pressure switch" error code (1494).
Today, I got a new mechanic that read me the riot act regarding after market modifications. He b**tched about everthing I had done and how it was adverse to the original engineering of the Dak.
My response was that I was in pursuit of increased performance and had added mods that supposedly did not void the Dodge warranty . (I have 20M miles on my truck with 16M remaining on the warranty, so I'm really not too worried.)
The manufacturers of every modification I have added to my truck have stated that their mods will not threaten the dealer warranty. The Jerk told me that Chrysler/Daimler did not make that representation and that it was soley up to CD if they would honor the factory warranty.
I guess when it comes right down to it, the Dealer has the right to deny any warranty repairs on any vehicle with ANY modifications that alter performance, regardless of the after market claims.
ummmm..maybe the Jerk Off is right!!
Anyone else have similar problems?

Message: They only thing that the leak detection system does is detects leaks in the evaparative emissions systems there is basically no mods that would cause this to fail. The only reason that the tech gave you the riot act is because he doesn't understand the mods, ignorance is bliss I guess.make sure you ask for the other techs that didn't give you a problem.

Message: CW - The Tech (who I actually have more confidence in his knowledge that the others) stated that the Holley TB I installed required an adjustment. It came with a "set screw" that prevented the computer from properly operating the TB. This was causing a vacuum problem which was triggering the Engine Light.
He sounded like he knew what he was talking about. Does this sound reasonable to you?
It has taken about 100 miles for the Engine light to come back on each time I have been to the Dealer. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the TB adjustment has solved the prob.
Thanks

Message: The only adjustment that I can think of off hand is the minimum air flow but that even set wrong shouldn't set the light. I have seen weirder things though. The purge vac solinoid which is part of the system takes vacuume from the throttle body. May be the throttle blades were not onpening far enouph for it to get propor vacuume. He sounds like a deacent tech and I would ask for him every time. Good luck on the problem.

Message: Dakaty,I also have a Holly TB on my 97,While I have had no problems at all,it did idle a little high when I first put it on.Just make sure you adjust that set screw so it idles right at the manufactures specified speed when warm and with no A/C on.I believe the Idle Air motor just compensates for surges and the compressor kicking on and off at idle.
