Message: Just wondering what would be the first part of the exhaust to upgrade and why? I figured cat back first then maybe headers. Thanks ahead.

I just put a K&N Cold Air kit 57-1517 and a Dynomax 17733 on my New 01 Club Cab 3.9 (700 miles)The throttle response is great and the butt dyno can tell a big difference to! Being a new truck I didn't have the heart to scrap that nice SS exhaust system just yet, the Dynomax is 2.5 in & 2.5 out all you need is a 11" piece of 2.5 in/out and it bolts right in place of the stock muffler in about an hour or two. The sound is nice for a V-6, at idle it rumbles like a V-8 , stomp on it you get a nice mellow growllll and as soon as you let up or get to cruising speed you don't even know it's there ! this was a very simple upgrade $260 for the K&N and $35 for the Dynomax from Summit
Have photos of both I can e-mail if anyone would like to see the install

I only changed the muffler, did that one evening then put the K&N on the next evening.
Cat-back system would have cost $250-300 for aluminized or over 400 for Stainless Steel, I didn't feel it was worth it just to get a mandrel bent tailpipe. If you look at the factory 2.5" tailpipe it not all that restrictive.
