Subject: t-stat and warranty?? IP: Logged
Message: I ordered a Jet Performance 180 degree t-stat and i was going to have it installed by the dealer when my 98 dakota 3.9 L was getting serviced. They told me that they could not install this since it was an aftermarket product(not a mopar part) and that if it would fail, it would void my warrenty. They were nice enough to install a new mopar t-stat for free, but that still leaves me with low temp t-stat that isn't on my truck. Should i just go ahead and install it myself? I really don't want to void the warrenty but i would like to have a cooler engine. Has anyone else ran into this problem? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Message: Install it your self they will never know. As far as warranty I don't know of to many things that go wrong with a thermo, very rarely do they stick closed.

Message: Worst case scenario the 180 does fail, and you replace it with an (OE) t-stat and gasket then take it in. (do not take it in with an aftermarket t-stat) some aftermarket parts will void warranty

Message: I had my dealer install the Robert Shaw t-stat for me. They had no problems with installing it, but did state on the bill that they would not be responsible for the t-stat if it should fail.
