Subject: How many using SYN ATF? IP: Logged
Message: Im aware of the debate about using Synthetic ATF in the 45RFE! My question here is how many of you are using Synthetic ATF in your 45RFE 2000+ Dakotas. What do you have to report since using it if any are?
Thank you

Message: Not recommended!
Anything I have read says to use ONLY the recommended fluid from dodge. This is not a sales gimmick. The heat-transfer, fricion and other charachtoristics of the recommended fluid are VERY unique.
Different fluids are known to 'confuse' the electronic-controled clutches and cause them to 'chatter' and eventually hammer themselves to death. Since there are input-speed-sensors and output-speed-sensors on this tranny, this tranny actually engauges the clutches "just enough" to eliminate slippage. (This allows more power to go to the wheels instead of building hydrolic pressure)
In fact, the 45RFE has a special maintenance schedule that calls for relitivly frequent fluid/filter changes. (as compared to most past DC auto trannys)
Said in another way... there are 3 fluids that I am aware of that should NEVER be substituted because of their special charactoristics.
1) HONDA POWER STEETING FLUID
2) JOHN DEERE HYDROILIC FLUID
3) CHYRYSLER AUTOMATIC TRANNY FLUID

Message: I only use the Chrysler stuff in my automatic for my Dak...only ATF+4, besides Amsoil. I would use Amsoil IF I could find someone who would flush my system with it, but could not, so went to the dealer.

Message: Rascal,
Didn't you just get your transmission fluid changed recently? Is the filter changes part of the service? I am taking my truck to the Dodge dealer in Lawrenceville on Friday for tranny fluid change. Is this the same dealer you use?

Message: Yes Steady, I went to Hayes, they were awesome. Dave Carter is the Service Rep. I had my tranny flushed, then filter changed. I also had my lsd serviced. Total was about $280. They did it faster than they said and cheaper than they said. I was very impressed.
