Subject: More Bang for my Bucks IP: Logged
Message: This is a very good site. I finally found guys that know & work on Dakotas. I have a 95 Dakota Sport, 3.9 v6, 5 spd stick, ext cab, bone stock with 105,000 miles. Any suggestions on what I can do to improve performance & fuel economy? Should I start with intake, ignition, exhaust, ecm? I can do the work myself but don't know what I need to use. I'm not trying to build a racetruck (I wish I could) but need more bang for my buck. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Steve H.

Message: First thing I'd get is an Airaid intake. Then get a 3" exhuast system. Make sure that it's mandrel bent not mash bent, like from a muffler shop. That will prepare you for any future mods as well as giving you power and fuel economy.

Message: go with the 2.5 if you have thev6. the 3 pipe u loose too much backpressure and some torque.

Message: I usually tell people to go in this order:
1. Air intake
2. Exhaust (headers recommended) custom pipes, and a great muffler
3. Ignition system - any aftermarket will make you happy
4. ECM
These are great bolt-on mods that anyone backyard mechanic like me can do. Plan on spending around $800-$1,000.
