Subject: Changing 4.7L sparkplugs IP: Logged
Message: What is the best way to get at or change the plugs located under the 2 hoses that go across the engine? Iam thinking about atempting this myself. Also is there anything else to replace like a pcv valve?
Thanks

Message: First you remove the airhat assembly and the hose leading to the air cleaner. The heater hose/lines are held into place by a couple of plastic hinge-mounted straps. They unsnap very easily and you can simply push the lines out of the way to get to the plugs that are underneath them.
When you go to remove the coils from ontop of the plugs, carefully twist them from side to side while pulling up. There's an o-ring that goes around the coils to keep water from getting into the plug opening of the head. If you just use brute force to pull the coils off you might damage the o-rings.
I'm not sure if it's the right thing to use or not... but I use some spray silicone lube on the o-rings when I go to re-install the coils. That let's them slide right into place very nicely. You will also want to make sure that the engine is cool when you swap the plugs. Also remember to use some sort of anti-sieze on the plug threads when you put the new plugs in.

Message: Thanks, Duner. Are you running the 5224's or the 3923's. Also does the 4.7L have a pcv valve?

Message: I just run the standard 5224s. I tried the 3923s but they made my truck run rough at idle and it seemed to lack some of the off-idle snap. It looks like the 4.7 actually has 2 pcv valves, both of them at the back of the engine above the valve covers.

Message: I think that Iam going to stay with the 5224's also after reading the post here as I do not have a problem with pinging. Did you replace the pcv valves?
Thanks

Message: the 4.7 has one pcv valve located on the passenger side of the engine in front under the ac hoses it has a clocked position and is a biotch to get off. The two valve's in the back of the motor are vents and do not need to be changed under regular maintenance
