Subject: High Flow Cat IP: Logged
Message: I have a 99 5.2 4X4 with a set mopar headers and mopar cat back exhaust along with a K&N cold air intake and Jet Stage 2 chip with Accel coil and wires. I was just wondering if I put a high flow cat will there not be enough back pressure and cause the HP to drop?

Message: I dont even have a cat anymore. There will definately not be any horsepower loss by replacing the cat with a high flow version. Id recommend Random Tech, theirs flow the best.

Message: I too have headers (Kenne Bell) and a high-flow cat-back exhaust. I have a straight thru single in/ dual out muffler. I also have the stock cat. My understanding is that the factory cat is a high flow version. I have also heard that some back pressure is needed in a modern EFI engine, to maintain good power. I don't think there will be any hp loss by changing the cat, but I wouldn't be surprised if low-end torque dropped. I have considered changing my cat on numerous occasions, but I still have the stock one, due to what I have heard about torque loss. I have also heard that a certain amount of backpressure is needed for the computer and oxygen sensors to work correctly. Hope this helps.
