Subject: true duals on a 3.9L IP: Logged
Message: Anyone running a true dual set-up on there
3.9L V-6 Daks?
With dual Cats / and an "H" pipe, I was just
wondering if there was enough room to install
one, and if anything had to be relocated.
thanks

Message: Big no no. Bad. No good. Not sure if it will work but you'll lose a ton of backpressure thus losing torque. Supercharged 3.9's only need 3" single exhaust. With a 4 x 4 NA engine, stick with single 2.5" pipe.

Message: not only will you loose a lot of torque, you will have a hard time roughting the pipe around the fuel tank.

Message: What if I went with smaller pipes , like 2 1/4"
or even 2" ,wouldn't that increase the
back pressure enough so I don't loose too much
torque?

Message: Nope! At the most, you could get a dual outlet catback muffler!

Message: Matter of taste. I got a Flowmaster 50 series single in/out. Sounds nice and fit in the stock exhaust pipe! Just depends. Bernd had tried them all and went back to Flowmaster!

Message: Hey, I was going to just chop my exhaust off after the headers and run strait duals with two turbo mufflers, and let it run down/side of the bed infront of rear end, plus downsize the pipe to add more backpressure. I was woundering if anyone would know if that would leave enough backpressure to run good? Or if it would trigger any sensors to freak out?

Message: LOL I'm with moparmuscle on this one!
The duals CAN be routed. I did it on my 4X4 and out the rear with exit going out both sides. The right pipe actually left over from stock.
The thing was BOTH pipes are on the right side until after they go over the rear axle. Then the right engine bank actually goes to the left side on my Dak. Just thought I'd make the pipes as close to even length that way.
However, I hate to say it, but every V6 Dakota out here with a loud exhaust (and usually FAKE duals) just sounds like a LOUD V6 trying to be more.
I'd just make sure your y-pipe is not too restrictive and put a single free flowing muffler on if you wish. But nothing imitates the rumble of a V8. It will just be a loud drobe of a V6. V6's are wierd. They almost rumble at an idle, but turn into a drone once on the throttle.

Message: haha yep I agree with Graphite! They do rumble at idle.. sounds pretty nice... but after that its all like a swarm of bees in a hollow log haha... i had to get the exhaust changed on my 92 3.9 and while I was waiting, i decided to drive around with NO exhaust and it seemed the truck had a little more perk to it... just my observations :-D
