NOOOOO!!!!
that is where you are wrong. The magnum v6 is a very bad engine. idles rough, get horrible gas milage and puts out less power then any comparable engine out there. In fact I challange anyone to find me an engine 3.9 litres or larger in a late model car or truck that produces less hp and torque. i really don't think one exists. prove me wrong. ford has had a few but try to find one in 2000 and up models. while ur at see if anything gets worse gas milage also. i really don't think there are any engines in new cars weaker then this one that are equal in displacement or larger.
prove me wrong

second, all i have read on this post is V6 guys defending their engines and trying to convince themselves as to why they got one.
why not just cough up the extra 435$ for the 4.7 and get more horsepower, more tourgue, and better gas mileage.

Thats like asking a chevy fan why all of the vehicles they buy have had the 327 engine instead of paying the $200 bucks more for the 350. Or why one person bought the blue truck instead of the red one. Most of use got it because we wanted it! It is our money and these are our toys.
Just my two cents!

Message: First off my 3.9l gets 17 in the city and 23 on the highway as for not having any HP i beg to differ with ya on that one. I have friends that wish they had bought a DAKOTA when the decided to buy the SHIVVY or PHORD in the last 11 years that i have owned my Dakota she has only left me stranded once and that was for a distrubtor drive gear that broke due to the distrubutor being bad replaced them and i have had no probelms since. As for the Rough idle try tuning it up mine fires right up and PURRS like a Lion waiting for the next encounter with a SHIVVY or PHORD. As for performace YES they are better running engines out their but I dont give a hoot about them the reason why the Newer Daks perform so poorly is that they choked those little trucks up so badly ever seen the difference in the EXHAUST on a GenII compared to a GenIII my Exhaust i 3" in diameter and the Exhaust manifolds a 2.5" in diameter compared to 1 7/8" . So if ya wanna compare the 3.9l performance to lets say a 4.0l FORD or a 4.3l CHEVY bring them on i take them one at a time and laugh at them as i GO by.......Just my 2cents worth THE SURGEON GENERAL HAS NEVER WARNED YOU ABOUT SMOKING THE COMPETITION.

I love(d) my 3.9 until yesterday. Took the wife car shopping and test drove a Durango with a 5.2. This is the first time I've driven any Dodge other than a 3.9 and let me say.... WOW! I was very impressed. I still like my 3.9 for now - but the next one will be a 5.2 or hopefully a 5.9 RT if they are still around.
I will say that she made me test drive a Ford Escape as well with a 4.0 in it (i think). I hated the thing with the exception of power - that thing would take my 3.9 anyday - it threw me back in the seat.....

Message: ok im not one to stick up for the 3.9 but...here goes. Ive driven cars that had 3.9(my 2000 4x4 CC auto), 4.7(test drove 02 CC auto 4x4) and 5.2(my moms 94 jeep). stock my truck was really really weak, however now with exhaust and airaid compared to the 4.7, though it wouldnt stand a chance, still seems a little more low end happy and really i was not all that impressed with the 4.7. its decently quick but it didnt knock my socks off and i think i would not be happy with a 4.7 4x4 either. The 5.2 jeep with 100,000+ miles on it however...wow...that thing can really move and with its all time 4x4 it will move no matter what the situation. no way to spin the tires on dry or wet ground. I was just flooring it during a rain storm and it still took off. when u gun it at 50 it gets to 80 very quickly. but as for 3.9 vs. 4.7 the 4.7 is obviously better but i think with about $1500 in mods (intake, exhaust, tb, headers, jet chip, 1.7 rr's) a V6 would be about even with one. maybe. ill bet the 4.7 5 speed 2wd is pretty damn quick though

oh sure with about $1500 worth of mods a 3.9 might be able to hang with a V8.
i dont know where everyone lives, but in florida, every dodge car lot has 4.7 on every model, and its only a $560 option.

Message: ok you guys with big v8's, the 5.2L and the 4.7L are comparing to the 3.9L because they can't compare to the 5.9L. And for us with 3.9L trucks that wished we had an RT, for the extra ten grand you wound have spent for the RT you can sup up your 3.9L V6 to smoke the RT/lighting or anything at comes along. I have see 3.9L do low 11's and still be an every day driver oppose to making a RT run 11's and still be streetable. as far as the 5.2 and the 4.7L you guys are still trying to catch the stock RT not to mention a modifided one. So we should just stick to putting down the chevys and fords.

Message: I choose a V8 anyday over a V6, but not for the reasons most of you are shouting about.
Its a given rule of the thumb so to speak that V8's last longer than V6's or I-4's. I enjoy the extra power that it provides without any mods. I've had a 3.9, and a 4.7 and without a doubt the V8 earns my personal recommendation. but the main reason is longevity, a bigger motor works less hard to get you up to speed at the rate that your accustomed to traveling.
NOW in a year or two when the new 3.7 225hp V6 comes out.... this might cause me to give a Dak V6 another test drive.

I also plan on a Vortech Supercharger and some intake mods also but for now i drive about 85 miles round trip each day so i been kind of putting off more mods until i can find a Decent paying job in my town so i dont have to drive the Beast as much and keep the Miles down a little. As for my truck I like it very much and I appreciate your guys comments and critisism i know some V-8 trucks are fast and might beat me but you may never know until you try and aleast i can say i have tried and if i lose OH WELL.At least I gave it my all and i have no shame in that at ALL.
