I have a '98 Dakota SLT, V-6, and it is currently getting a soft overhaul of the tranny at 65,000 miles. I have a Airaid intake and vortex muffler w/ dual exhaust installed. These are the only mods I've made, but the tranny seals are leaking and my overdrive unit is shot. Gas mileage is a mere 14 miles/city; 17 miles hwy.. Love my Mopar, but am a little discouraged at the moment. Dodge dealer said they've been having tranny problems with all Dodge vehicles.. anyone experiencing similar problems?? E-Mail me at ragingcb@aol.com....thanks!!! Mopar or no car.

I havent had trouble with the tranny on my 99 club cab slt(3.9) other than that it is very sluggish shifting,if i manually shift trough the gears it is much more powerful. So i wonder if there is something with the tranny.I should find out before the extended warranty is up(70,000 or so)But i have had to replace the cat converter at 26000 and at 55000 miles(yes, twice),also the upper ball joints at 26000,and i just had tires put on again, and they told me the ball joints are shot again,so looks like i'll be going on steering rack # 2 before 60000 miles.Have you had any other problems?

i don't get this mopar has always been known for having the strongest built auto tranny what gives now. Look at the neon for instance, these things need trannys every time they have to change the oil i mean come on that tranny sucks a buddy of mine put three trannys in his neon in 2 years. I think the problem with all these is too many people wanna sacrifice durablity for comfort ultimately if you build a smooth shifting comfortable trans. you have to use soft weak parts. Give me a turbo 350 or 400 or a torque flite 727 and i'm happy, this is why i refuse to buy an auto anymore and i'll stick with my 5 spd.

P.S. this is not just dodge either, my mother owned a 95 mazda protege she bought it brand new in 95, and at 18,000 miles it dumped the tranny in the driveway ( what a mess ) and my brother owned a saturn SC2 auto ( has a 6 spd celica GT-S now ) and he started it at his friends house at 6 in the morning put it in gear and drove about 2 miles to the highway, after he got on the highway for about a mile the differential pin shot through the case and into the bottom of his hood destroying both hood and tranny case ( he was driving at 65 mph and the car had 51,000 on it.

The problem is the lack of delviery of oil to overdrive unit. Several different techs. I have spoke with have recommended shutting off your overdrive prior to running the truck hard. Prior to my 99 dakota I had a 97 V6. A transgo shift kit or in fact any shift kit should do. The harder the shift the less wear on the tranny because, a softer shift promotes slipping.
my 2 cents worth.

I have a 98 SLT 5.2 with 64k miles on it. I just got the truck and I am certain the tranny had never been serviced. It would sometimes slip in first and then sometimes stick in second. I had it serviced by an excellent dealer here yesterday. I had the entire trans flushed and then dropped the pan, replaced the filter and filled it again. He also serviced the lsd for me.
Total cost was $283, (less than he quoted and faster than he quoted as well).
Hayes Chrysler/Dodge in Lawrenceville, GA.
Now my tranny shifts perfectly..feels like new.
I am a happy trucker.

i have a 94 sport with the 3.9 v6 with a automatic trans. Every now and then when i put it to the floor from a dead stop the truck redlines itself for about two seconds before shifting into second. I constantly check the tranny fluid and its always good. what could be my problem?

It could be a throttle position sensor, or even your throttle valve cable needs an adjustment. I would do both of those before I rebuilt the transmission.

I have a 93 w/ overdrive tranny.
I have my tranny rebuilt twice because they did not keep up on changes or up dates from factory.
I found out on the A518 tranny, the shaft going to the govnenor must have a hole drilled through it to allow more fluid to the overdrive and the gov. I also started out with no overdrive.
Can anyone tell me how to get a 904 or 518 tranny overhaul manual.
I am not paying the money again and I know I can do it myself.

Hello guys, I was searching this forum looking for answers or fellow transmission sufferers. I just dropped my truck in for service and received a call an hour or so later informing me that the planetary had gone south. I had the same problem back at 18k miles. I called Chrysler to see if they would be able to at least pick up some of the tab(hell, it's the same exact part!!). The not so nice lady on the line of course said my truck was out of warranty and basically I'm SOL. Needless to say, I have to shell out at least $1500 for this repair. I'm beginning to thing the other dealership never fixed it in the first place. Maybe I need to look into one of those shift kits eh?? Sorry guys, but I had to vent a little...

i recently bought a 93 D150 V8 w/A518 tranny. i have had to replace the tranny filter two times with in 500 miles. i know the truck was an old company vehicle and has 253,000 miles. i have talked to many people and everyone has said that the torque converter is breaking down and causeing to clog the filter. it will just quit engaging and the tranny fluid will look as i just poured it out of the bottle. so if anyone can help me please do
