Message: I received my IAT switch yesterday. What fast service from Speedtweeks! I installed it last night, took about 45 minutes. What a BIG difference. Set it about 1 to 1:30 on the dial, it was about 93 degrees. The truck flew! Take off power plants your head in the head rest, before I knew it I was at 60 mph. I love this easy to install mod!

Message: There is a sensor (Intake Air Temp - IAT) that measures the temperature of your incoming air and feeds that info to the computer. This gadget lets you fool the computer into thinking the air temp is cooler than it actually is. There is a dial you turn to make the adjustment. The computer adjusts for the cooler air and makes ya some more power. Cost is $30 from the inventor -- www.speedtweaks.net.

Message: I got mine yesterday as well....took me a bit longer to install (it does take a bit of courage to clip the 2 wires coming from the sensor). Is it best to just keep the dial at say 1-2 regardless of outside temp or should the dial be set say 20 degrees colder than outside air; hence the dial position would vary?

Message: Yes... I had a hard time cutting the 2 wires also from the sender... Something about if you mess up here you in deep poop. :)
Anyway, I keep it on all the time and it seems to run the best in the 1 - 1:30 setting. Today it about 98 degrees out so I might push it up to 2 - 2:30 position on the way home and see how much difference there is.

Message: Hey guys,
FWIW, I've been sold on the IAT adjuster since they first came out. I got one of the first ones and have always been happy with it.
My mileage has not suffered, if anything it actually went up a little(if I keep my foot out of it).
But the part I like the best is that I can adjust the dial to maximize performance based on the octane I'm running. Unlike the Jet chip(I tried 2 of them) that recommends premium fuel, I can set the dial at 1:30-2:00 and run great on 87 octane.
Put 93 octane in and crank that knob to 4:00 and she runs even better(with no Ping). If the outside temp gets too high and I hear pinging, all I have to do is back off the knob til its gone.
Performance-wise, I get the same rwhp with the IAT box and premium fuel as I got from the Jet chip-if you compare the prices you'll know why I speak so higly of the IAT.
Sorry for the long post-this is not a paid endorsement but it is an endorsement.

The IAT Sensor is on the #2 Intake Runner on the 3.9/5.2/5.9L and underneath the TB harness on the 4.7L. (1992-2001 models)
It's not recommended to run with the Jet since they already alter the IAT signal (hmmm...now there's a shock) to alter the timing slightly as well as the fuel curve.
I've seen pictures of them mounted in the glovebox, under the dash, in the engine compartment, and even in teh ashtray. I put mine on the upper tray on my 5-Speed shifter console ('97 model).

Message: We used to do something similar on old Toyota Supra's in the late 80's. We would splice into the wire comeing from the thermo sensor for the ECM and install a rehostat. I can not remember what type of rehostat it was. It did the same thing it told the ECM it was colder and enriched the fuel. We would lower the temp till the check engine light came and then back it off until the check engine light went off. It also helped when running a dry NOS system. Back then you could also easily trick the timming. Did you guys know that if you increase voltage to your fuel pump and ignition coil you can make more power. We used to go to about 16 volts and saw significant jumps in HP and Torq. It cuts the life of a stock coil and fuel pump by about 30%. We did not run like this al of the time!!! Only when we raced>

Message: I have a question... hopefully not a dumb one. If the IAT causes the fuel to run rich, would the engine not run too hot? I'm thinking that fuel ratio being off is what keeps causing my cat to blow... could the IAT have an adverse effect? Otherwise, it sounds like an easy and reasonable mod.

Message: An engine running richer will actually run cooler. Lean will run hotter.
Has anyone had any problems receiving MILs while using their IAT Adjuster? I've had mine for about 3 months now and of recent I have gotten a code P0111(Intake air (charge) temperature sensor voltage irrational performance) 3 times. Right now I have it switched off to see if I have anymore problems. I usually set it about 20 degrees(12-1 position) colder than outside air.

Message: This is one thing that makes no sense, the IAT sensor information is not even read by the PCM when you floor it,other times it does, but when you punch it,it only reads the 02 sensors and throttle position sensor,I just hate to see all of you spend your money on something that you could do yourself. If you have a after market intake,go to the dealer and buy a new IAT sensor,$10.00,drill a 1/2" hole in your intake tube(especially K&N gen II) about 3" behind the heat shield and thread it into the plastic tube. Then disconnect the clip from the stock IAT sensor and plug it into the new one, make sure you drill your hole where the wires can reach. Then it is reading colder air,and is almost free. But in all honesty,I did this a long time ago,I didnt really notice anything.Even though it was probebly reading about 100 degrees or more in the stock location, now it is reading anywhere from 50 to 80 degrees in the tube.Save your money for proven mods.

Message: Relocating IAT sensor is a BAD idea. The engineers who designed the 3.9l V6 want it to read the air temp INSIDE the intake manifold! They aren't morons :)
If you alter the IAT location (cooler spot or with a kit) you start beating the hell out of your pistons (too far advanced for the air temp coming in) and bad things happen over time.
Don't mess with your engines sensors!

Message: One more thing... the IAT is supposed to sense the warmness inside the intake manifold. The EGR dumps warm air in there as (I think) so the IAT needs to sense that extra heat. The whole thing (PCM) is designed like it is for a reason. If you want to get 300,000 miles on your engine.. don't move the IAT sensor.

Message: WOW, really! I know I'll regret it but I just can't help jumping in here to debunk a couple myths. I can only speak from 10 years experience racing a '92 5.2L. I relocated my IAT sensor to one of my air cleaner inlets and it picked up my ET by 6 hundreths of a second. No ill effects whatsoever. No oil consumption, no loss of mileage on the street and the truck has run the same for years.
My FSM says the O2 sensor is the only one NOT read at wide open throttle. It's called open loop mode.
