Subject: Black Magic 150 Installed - Attn:V6'ers IP: Logged
Message:
Well, my old (reliable) Hayden 16" decided to start wobbling on my (bad vibrations from the fan) and I had no choice but to lay it to rest in that AutoParts House in the sky.
Ok...enough grievance on that one...hehehehehe...in goes the Black Magic 150.
WOW!! This this ROCKS!!
The temperature (even with the A/C ON) doesn't get above 180 (Hayden was 187). It sounds like a freekin' wind-tunnel under the hood and it pumps some pretty serious air...stuck a piece of paper on the grill (hood closed) and it was sucked up to the grill.
For a V6, this one's a really good option against the Hayden. The only thing on the installation is that the instructions for the brackets suck. Double-Nut the bottom (not single like the instructions) and it matches perfectly to the radiator support without any bending of the bracket. Hook-up is easy but they don't tell you to put a Diode inline with the A/C signal...keeps the fan from turning the clutch ON when the A/C isn't being used.
I'll post some pictures later on this evening.

Message: I tried the electric fans, but not the Black Magic, (which I wish I had tried), but none were able to keep the heat down on my 5.2 V8.

Message: Black Magic 150 (The 150 is the part number from Flex-A-Lite). I picked mine up for $220 (retail store).
It's rated @ 2800CFM which (by their ratings) is adequate for up to 265HP-Non A/C and 225HP-A/C.

Message: I have the Black Magic on my 5.2 and so far so good. Mine does not stay on unless the a/c is running, I do not know why some people had to put a diode inline..
Check that you have a good fit on that probe in your radiator, Tony. Also, you have an adjuster for the thermostat on top of the fan, (little black knob), get your truck up to normal temp and play with that a bit till you get it to come on when you want it to.

Message: the fan doesnt come on at all when I turn the knob! It's nuts. I don't know why. All the wires are hooked up fine and everything. I dont get it. I think its the temp sensor cuz the fan does turn on with the manual switch i rigged up for now.

Message: For a V6...yes. On a V8, it's questionable if you're in a hotter climate (90+ in the summer with the A/C running).
I use the Flex-A-Lite "Black Magic" 150.
