Message: My buddy is a car salesman at a local ford dealrship!!! On his lunch break he was driveing a 95 5.0 5 spd. We pulled up to a stop light in town and he reved his engine well there was no need!!! It was about time to see how bad these mustangs were!!!! Well I hve a 97 5.2 w/ 49k miles 5spd., Reg. cab, 2wd, suspension kited, 3.90 sure grip rear ended, k&n, FIPKed, DODGE DAKOTA. Let me tel you he jumped off the line which means running the red light jus a hair!!!! well he did that and that was it by the time that I was in second well into the red line on my truck like 5600 in first. I had hime by a half a car then he pulled me by about a 1/2 of a truck or car after about 100 mph and a little over a small town 1/4 mile. Yes my friend is not the best driver but he said that he did not miss any shifts at all!!!! I think he was mesing with me!!!! there is no way in hell that I would be that close to a 95 5.0 with 70k miles. and there were no big crome wheels on it. It was a stock 95 gt!!! So I guess if you know your truck and find a ragged out stang you do have yourself a race. I am figuring a low 15 to high 14 w/ my baby in a quarter. No spare tire light weight suspension kit, light wieght front end and A arms. towed some gravel and the truck by it self ways 3765. So I think that may have helped jus a little.

Was it your first time to the track in this truck? Give yourself some practice if you haven't already.
Have fun!
oh, also consider which bodystle you have and what they tested and whether you're running a stick or an automatic. If you can shift, a stick will help you otherwise...

Message: The trucks in the mags were quadcabs and one said it was an automatic the other didn't specify. This wasn't my first time to the track. I also was wondering about the new tranmission with the overdrive, I noticed that my low end performs better with over drive on and top ends is better with it off. Would it be ok to start with overdrive on and turn it off while running the quarter mile.

Message: last night i went to gainsville, 1/4 mile. i was only able to make 3 passes. this was my first time ever on a track. first i ran a 16.014 @83.14, i was not at all sat. w/that. my second run was a 15.801 @84.80, that was better but i still was not happy. after the 45 minute cleanup from some stupid chevrolet, i made a third and final run 15.709 @84.86. i am almost sat. with that run but i think i can do better. it was 82 degrees and humid. i was happy i beat imports in all three. if i ca figure out my scaner i will post the time slips.

Message: Well i have 2000 cc 4.7 w/ 3.55 and limited slip. I got sopme mods. 180 t-stat, gibson dual exhuast airraid intake, jet stage 2 I have made about 30 passes with my truck. The first time was horable. 15.8. But the best time i ever got with it was a 14.8. but i usually average in the visinity of 15.1 to 15.3. There are a few local r/ts up there with few mods. A bone stock cc r/t runs a 16.0 flat where a rc r/t runs a 15.1.

Message: If you've ever owned a Mustang you would know that mustang owners tend to play around with the "slower" vehicles. It's fun to them (us) but it makes the people in the "slower" cars think they actually hung with a mustang. They will argue till their death that the guy in the Mustang WAS actually racing but they really dont know. Mustangs are very fast vehicles. Think about it, 235 hp in a very light tiny car with excellent weight transfer and perfect gear ratios. I will say that I have seen some people that cant race a stick to save their life. I don't mean to start any sort of arguement and I'm not gonna play anyones silly little game about how their dak is faster than a mustang. I don't mean to be rude either.

Message: As far as mustangs go, there are many slower then a 2wd V-8 Dakota, and some faster. Dollar for dollar they are slower. Invoice after rebates on a 2001 Mustang v-8 is $21609. A Dakota 4.7/5-speed/3.92LS is only $13724. If you don't think the $7885 would make the Dakota faster you're wrong. It's high 14's stock is pretty close to the mustang's low 14's in the first place. $7885 would make a Dakota beat a Lightning but you actually would have more like $15,000 to spend to make up the difference. There is no better buy out there as far as horsepower per dollar then a Dakota.

I just stumbled across here looking for some performance estimates on a Dakota I just placed on order (4.7+manual is oddly rare around here)

Message: tommy: cc, ls, 2wd? (255/65?)
My guess is that they got the 235 tires and no limited slip. C&D doesn't allow for things that drag racers do (ie: power shifting) when running thier tests. Stuff like powershifting usually explains the difference between first time racers times and vetran times.
The one I'm getting:
CC, 4.7, 5 speed, 3.55 LS, tire+handling 2WD
