Message: Well it's not as cheap as making your own but it looks better and is not much more expensive. If you can get your hands on a honda civic intake (not sure which year but it's the one with the 45 degree bend in it) the 45 degree bend will position the intake at about the same position as an airaid or k&n would plus the purocel should adapt right to the air hat if not get a 3" to 3" rubber fernco from a plumbing store and adapt it that way. Most civic intakes if you can find one at autozone or pepboys are between 75 and 90 dollars. Only thing you may have to do is make a bracket for the tube, a local auto zone here sells a civic intake tube for 35 and the filter for 30 to 40. Just a wild brain storm i had today while at an import shop with my friend. Let me know what you think.

Message: I did the same thing but I just bought the K&N filter off line and some pcv pipe from Home Depot along with a 3"-3" tube conector made up my own heat sheild and total cost was about $70 except for the Cromalusion paint that I painted the tube but I hope to have pics of my truck on the net soon.

Message: Realize that the filter element for a Civic may not supply enough air to an engine over twice it's displacement. The advantage to a conical filter is its lower restriction - using a filter which is too small will not give the gains you want. Buy the largest filter which will fit; this not only filters better, but it increases performance better due to lower pumping losses.

Message: I want to upgrade my intake system on my
DAK 4.7l / 5-Speed, but am at this point
very budget minded (need a low cost solution)
What is the limiting factor in the stock intake
system.
Does the Stock airhat with its "sound-deadening"
chambers hurt performance, or is it more related
to the stock air filter box with that
very small air input snorkel up against the
fender.
I.E.
Will modifying the Stock air filter box improve
performance of the intake system ?

Message: look on the roof of your house and look at the pipes that come out of the roof for venting. there is a plate at the bottom of the 3 inch pipes to keep it from leekinginto the house. it is flat plastic with an 3 inch angled hole. it looks like it could make half of a heat shield. if someone goes to home depot try to remember to look. tell me what you think about that.

Message: I got one for you.
I still have the stock air box in mine with a K&N filter but I put an aluminum 4" expandable duct from the air box and pooked it out the front of the grill. It ain't bad looking and it was cheap...til I get $$$ for a real one and it WORKS!
