Message: There is a TSB on this problem. I went to a web site:
http://www.alldata.com/TSB/0117_mo.html
And they listed the TSB for 2 and 4WD DAKs but for the QC, it only showed up for the v6/5.9 engine, so is that to say folks with a QC and 4.7 (regardless of 2 or 4WD) shouldn't have this problem?

Message: My 2002 QC MIL light came on at about 3500 miles. Dealer says it's the code for the evap system leak, but they couldn't find a leak. They replaced the leak detection pump and sent me out the door.
Still no TSB for the 4.7 on this issue as far as I can tell.

Message: The "the evaporative purge system" is a network of hoses, solenoids, pump and charcoal filter.
This system pulls the "fumes" from the gas tank and stores them in the charcoal filter while parked. When engine is running, the stored fumes are fed into engine to be burned. Without this system, parking garages would become HUGE BOMBS due to all of the gasoline fumes escaping into the air.
The pump is use only for TESTING that the system is functioning properly. A small pressure is built up within the gas tank and a check is made to ensure that the pressure "holds". You may have heard the pump after first starting the engine, It sounds like a slight "thumping" sound in the dashboard for a few minuites after starting the engine.
The most common cause of code p0442 is a gas cap that was not put on tight. However, there is a hose that tends to pop off of the charcoal canistor somtimes... my dealer used a hoseclamp to fix it.

Message: I have had this code 2-3 times over the 40,000 miles logged on my 2001 QC... (approximately 120+ fillups)
Every time I have found the gas cap to be a little loose... I never use full serve, so I am sure that I am tightening it a few clicks, but who knows... the light goes away After I make sure the cap is tight AND after I drive about 50 miles and/or start the truck 3-4 times...
I have reset the PCM right away and the light also didn’t come back.. I am pretty sure that it is just a loose cap. There is even a warning at the fillup neck indicating that the light will be tripped if the cap is loose.

Message: My 01 Q/C 4.7 2WD auto has been in shop about 4 times for this damn MIL light the first time they thought it was a loose gas cap NOT. second time couldnot find anything just reset computer and adv if it comes on again they will do a smoke test. well it came back on 3rd attempt a smoke test was performed and they supposely discovered that the fuel tank not holding pressure during evap test sequence was the cause due to one of the vents on top of the tank had popped out slightly. 4TH ATTEMPT, yesterday, fuel tank comes in they replace tank and less then 24hrs the freakin MIL light is on AGAIN!!!... this is so frustrating the same code has come on the trucks computer p0161 however tech says these codes are not reliable and their equipment show more information. this code if i recall has something to do with oxygen sensor bank 1 or 2/ rationalization code.. i have no clue what means? ANY ONE ELSE EXPERENCE A SIMILAR PROBLEM OR HAVE IDEAS ABOUT WHAT MIGHT BE CAUSING THIS PROBLEM???

Message: Looks like Dodge is sitting tight on this one. Is ther anyone that has a 4.7 that has'nt gotten the P0455 or P0442 error?
Anyone know about the rough idle when engine is cold? or how to trouble shoot it without just replacing the obvious, has been this way for about 50,000 115,000 and still rolling no major problems.

Message: I had the P0442 code pop a few times. I looked at my gas cap...like Dr. Q I had rust in mine. But mine also made a rattling noise when I shook it and if I looked really closely I could see some cracked plastic. Bought a new gas cap...no rattles and no codes since then.

Message: I had the MIL come on on my 2001 Q/C 4x4 with the 4.7 l V8
The dealership charged me 80 bucks to tell me there was an evaporative leak. Smoke test revealed a faulty leak detection pump.
I went to autozone and scanned the code and got p0455 (for free)
Can anyone tell me where the leak detection pump is, and where i might be able to get a replacement for less than the $200 the dealer wants to install it?
