Please don't think I'm trying to get you to do my
work for me, I'm new to performance tuning. I
have a intense blue 2000 cc 4x4 w/3.9. I'm
interested in putting in 3.92 LSD gears to
replace my 3.55 open's. I realize I have to do
back and front diff's (either that or take out the
front driveshaft, which would be slightly
counter-productive). My question is, has
anyone had a 4x4 done like this
professionally? how much did it cost? I
suppose I could stay open in front and LSD in
back right?

In an effort to ad low end power and increase /
maintain mpg's, I added a quickD intake,
Hughes TB ( dremeled off the 'henge myself! ),
and spliced in a flowmaster 50 delta. I have
the 3923's and synthetic oil ready to go in. But,
I think the gears have the most potential.

Thanks,
Wade

I am a flat rate mechanic and the only help I can offer is. It would be about, but don't quote me on this, 5 hours of labour per diff maybe some more on the front diff because it is difficult to get to. Take that and what ever the parts cost to give you a rough estimate. Not sure it would be worth it though, it is quite alot of money. Oh I would stay with the open diff in the front.

3.55 to 3.92,that small of a gear change won't do much.If you want to change gears go big or stay home. They make a 4.56 for the rear but I don't know about the front diff.A "Dana, trac loc" is about $300 the gears go about $280x2=$560 you should install new bearings at $35x4=$140(Timkin) plus install kits at about $50 each=$100,speedo gear $20 and that red line gear lube isn't cheep add $50 for that,$20 more for seals--parts alone=$1190. If you get a good deal on parts. Labor should run about 6hrs rear & 7hrs front plus the speedo gear .5hrs at a labor rate of $60hr --labor=$810 Total...$2000 !!! A trac loc alone will run about $750 labor is less if you don't change the pinion gear(about 5hrs).
