Message: How easy was it to install? Did it come with the "heat shield"? Did you shop for best price? Where did you get it?
I have a "drop in" K&N filter for the factory air box. I could tell a difference when I installed it (cost @$50). I curious as to the power/MPG increase I could expect going from a drop in K&N to the FIPK for $250-$300????
Thanks

Message: I have been looking at the cost of these. For my 5.2, I have seen them as high as $320 locally. That's way too much. Checker will order one in for 234.99, but there's tax on that. You can check Jegs and summit and other online places, but If I decide to go with the K&N gen II, I will order it from Speedtweaks.net. Its a flat $235 and the last time I looked, that included shipping. Plus, its helping support one of the best sources of information we have on this board.

Message: The kit was not hard to install, you just have to follow the instructions. The heat shield comes with the kit.I only installed it a couple of days ago so I don't know how much of a MPG increase there is yet but you could notice the power increase.I ordered mine from Summit for 256.00.The kit just came out for the 5.9 2001,I don't think it fits the 5.2.

Message: FYI, I just listed a K&N tube on Ebay. The original one I ordered had a crack in the base. I used gasket seal to patch the crack and I used the tube for a few days while K&N sent me a replacemnt. My ebay listing is for the tube only. Pictures are shown. If you can get your hands on a cone filter and a bolt for the throttle body, you could get by for much less than $235. PS: I love the complete unit on my 99 5.2 Dakota. More power and +1 mpg.

Message: I have the k&n filter to and the gibson cat back split rear exhaust system and I have noticed a difference and I have a 99 slt ext. cab 5.2 355 gears dak. My advise is to buy the stainless steel exhaust though if you live where the sky shed the white sheit called SNOW. If you live where it's snows in 2-3 years with the allum. you will be replacing it and the stainless is only 429.99 from carparts.com right to your door and 1 1/2 hours later it's on the truck.
