Message: My '98 3.9 runs rich, under all driving
conditions. So far, I have new: 180 t-stat,
Taylor wires, Accel cap/rotor, K&N drop-in. I
change the oil every 3K mi; since I added the
above new stuff, mileage improved to about
17 MPG, but the tailpipe is still black inside (I
clean it every time I wash my Dak. Oh, it has
about 29K mi on it, with latest PCM updates, I
run regular (Arco) fuel.
Any thoughts on why it's running rich?

Message: black "soot" in the tail pipe is common on any engine if it doesn't pump black smoke out the tail pipe you have no problem. P.S. you wash the inside of your tail pipe????? You need help!

Message: Yeah, and I iron my socks, too. ;-)
I see lots of clean tailpipes (no soot); I'm
about to take the plunge for a cat-back system,
maybe that will help.
