Message: Need info on gear changes. I am going to replace the 3.55 gears in my '99 Dakota with 3.90s. What do I need to do to correct the speedometer for the new ratio? Who makes/sells good gear sets for our trucks?

The speedo is electronically controlled in your Dak. No need to change a speedo-gear or recalibrate (from the dealer) unless you're changing the tire size as well (to something out of the factory offered range).
Motive Gear is the best...Richmond Gear has a small problem with the thread length on the pinion gear.

Message: Bernd,
Thanks a lot. You are the one that convinced me to make the change in an earlier thread.
I thought the sending unit for the speedometer is on the rear axle but I wasn't sure. I'm looking for a Motive gear distributor today.
