Subject: gibson v6 exhaust sound! IP: Logged
Message: Help!
I despreatly would like to hear a 3.9l v6 with a gibson muff on it. single or dual i dont care i just dont want to buy one and get stuck with a crappy sounding exhaust. anyone with a wav. file or other way of putting sound on here or somewhere else i can find one please help. And if anyone has sounds of other systems such as flowmaster or dynomax or whatever on a v6 would be nice too, the more comparison i have the better.

Message: Well I don't have any soundwaves but I do have a 3" Dynomax catback on my 2000 QC V6 and I love the sound. It gives it a unique rumble for a V6. One drawback is the loss of lowend torque so I would suggest either a 2.5" single or 2.25" dual. If you still have some money left add a set of JBA headers and an intake system. I have an airaid intake and those headers mentioned above as well as an MSD 6A ignition w/ the MSD superconductor wires(8.5mm) I ran the 1/8mile track in St.Pete FL last night and ran consistant 11.3 sec runs at 62mph in low 80 degree temps. The last time I ran times like that in my truck all I had was the Dynomax catback plus I completly removed my airbox. The temp outside was a bone chilling 45 degrees.
Good luck finding your exhaust. The dynomax website does have sound bits just not one of a V6 Dakota.

Message: Sorry Marc, I don't have any wav. files. Check www.gibsonperformance.com They have a 4.7 engine wav. file. I do like the sound of the gibson. Good luck.

Message: Marc, I had to go out and listen to my truck with some assistance. I never really heard the exhaust outside while reving. Only at idle and inside the cab. The exhaust, to me, sounds alittle more like the Ram dual sport (my friend agreed). The cherokee was not deep enough. All sounds are subjective. Gibson doesn't tell you how far away the mic set up was or engine sizes. I can tell you at idle there is a mellow rumble (louder than stock & noticable). Winding through the gears she does get loud (around 1900-2500 rpm) At cruising (50-70 mph), there's a hum (barely noticable). Gibson does not sound like a rice burner and it gives the v6 a v8 tone. To my wife, she thinks I need a new muffler (so does my friend, females) but she says it my truck. I heard Flowmaster are louder and have alittle more resonance in the cab. I hope this helps.

Message: Hey marc I put gibson exhaust under my 99 dak with the 5.2l and it sounds great along with that I put on borla incool tips and at idle it kind of sounds like it has headers. If you live where it snows or has salt order it in the stainless steel you will have to replace the alluminumized in 2-3 years otherwise.

Message: Marc, I'm runnuning a stainless steel single side. I got it when Bernd was running a group buy for about $360. I installed it my self. Everything fit well. Removing the old muffler was the hard part. Just don't cut the cat pipe. You can remove the muffler by cutting slits in the muffler pipe and using a cold chisel to open the muffler pipe to pull it off. Have fun.

Message: I just put a single 3" side out on my 99 3.9. EASY! Just follow the directions in the box. Mine said cut pipe behind muffler, cut pipe 5 1/2" in front of muffler. Twist the hangers from the rubber grommets and it's out (WD-40 on the grommets makes it slide easier). 10 minutes. no bolts or wrench required, just a hacksaw! To install, line up parts, clamps, etc, slide muffler onto pipe from cat (plenty of room on it), put hangers in grommets and line it all up, then tighten down the clamps. Everything lined up perfectly, done in a little under 30 minutes (I'm no pro) Sounds great, not too loud. Not like a rice burner.
