Hello all. This is my first post to this awesome site. I have been lurking for some time on the Moparts site while I built up a failry hot 318. It is nearing completion at this point and I can't bring myself to install it in my club cab long bed D-150... I would like to find a straight Dakota to mate with this 330 HP montster.

I reviewed the archives and saw several strings on this subject, but I have a few questions I hoped someone could answer.

My block is a 1989 and I don't have a transmission right now. The plan is to build up a 727 to handle the HP, but any other thoughts would be appreciated.

Here are my questions:

What year would be best to start with. I have about $2500 to spend and don't want to do any body work. I figure this limits me to 4 cyl or 6 cyl trucks with high mileage.

Will the 3.9 motor mounts work?

How about the K-member?

AC, PS, Alt. brackets?

Radiator suggestions? Probbaly a pusher elec. fan, right?

Anything else major that I will have to contend with?

Thanks for the advice and direction on this project.

Greg

I would find a Gen 3 dak and maybe spend a little extra money because the truck is just horsepower thirsty and with a motor like the one you got building at (Greg motorsports) you could really turn some heads.

The gen 2 Dakota is lighter than the gen 3 . Installing the engine is pretty much the same . Make sure you FIND the small pieces for the swap first . The engine mounts look the same (I'm not 100% sure). Gen 1 Dakota'sare the hardest because of the space . Check some of the pages on this site for more feedback . Good luck :}
