Subject: 3923's and FIPK questions IP: Logged
Message: Hello,
I'm new to the board and I think this is a great site. I've seen a lot of posts about 3923's and I was wondering if they're really that much better than the standard.
I also went to the local hot rod shop to look into buying the K+N kit. For 97 Dak's and up you can use the 57-1509. The picture shows the filter complete with tube and heat shield. However I have a 96' Dak V6 which calls for the 57-1501. It did not have a picture. I asked for a quote and he told me $125. He said it probably does not have the tube and the heat shield because that seemed too cheap.
Everyone here seems to have a lot of experience with these air kits. I've looked at some of the other posts but they all seem to talk about 97 and up Daks. Can the 57-1509 fit on my truck? Is there a better set-up out there than the K+N for my 96.
Again, great site.

Message: I put 3923's in my '00,cc, v 6 and lost all top end but gained some in the low end side. I added .8 in the quarter (slower). I had my cousin, who owns his own parts/machine shop, play with it and we found in MY truck that Autolite 5224's were best. I also cut .2 off the original time in the quarter. That makes the 5224's quicker by a second. Not every motor is the same and I would suggest that you try it.If the 3923's don't work well, try the 5224's. It will cost less than $10. to find out.

Message: No offense, but I did not think the 3923s were the right plugs for the v6..just the 5.2 and 4.7 v8s...but I sure could be wrong
