Man I tell you what I have really enjoyed my dodge. But there is two that r gtting on my nerves!! I have a really bad rattle that don't occur but every now and then but some times it jus won't go away. Why??/ what is it. You are a very knowledgable person about dodge and I supose other cars. getting ready to buy your AIT adjuster(excited about that)!!!! and the other thing is that when i first crank My 97 318 it will skip or sputter for just a second or two then it will smooth out why???? my dads 98 3.9 when cranked will jus rev up to about 2200 real quickly and then begin to idle i bet this will puzzle ya pretty good!! I doubt it!!! Anyway, the rattle is from 2400 through out the range of the engine. i know it is not spark knock!!! cause i have a little of that every now and then running 87!!! but it is like a real thin metal rattle it is driving me up the wall!!!! Really. It makes no since at all I loked at my dads CAT conv. and it has holes in the bottom of it and it is a 98 dakota with the 3.9 he has no ratlle what so ever. i am thinking that it might be the CAT or something else!!! that is were you expertise hopefully will come in!!!!! Bernd thanks a lot for any help you can provide. also thanks for the TB info!!!

It sounds like my 98 dakota 5.2. I had 24,000 and the rattle started and it was my cat, and it had to be replaced. They told me federal emmisions covered this thing up to 100,000 miles. My truck had more power after they replaced it. I guess the darn thing collapsed. Hope this helps.
