Subject: Z Tube on 4.7 IP: Logged
Message: Well, Got tired of waiting for K&N so I installed the Z Tube with the 9inch Pro-Flow filter on my 4.7 Dakota Quad Cab. Also just recently changed out the stock muffler for a BORLA straight-through stainless steel muffler.
Anyway, the Z Tube install was easy to say the least and took me about 35 minutes to complete.
The directions included with the unit were very good/clear. Even a novice would have no problem with the install.
Can tell you my butt dyno definitely registers marked improvement in my trucks performance! Along with that, the sound at WOT is something to make you smile and geeeeez, that Z tube set-up sure looks great. Bill in NY

Message: I have an '01 4x4 Quad Cab. Had to cut down the lenght of the z-tube about 2" to get it in by the AC lines off of the compressor. Must have changed the line set up for some reason on mine, besides that it was pretty simple. The keeper on the cruise control was a bit frustrating, mostly because it was 105 out here in Texas and sweat was pouring in my eyes. Very nice HP gain. Put on a Gibson cat back, jet chip and TB spacer, and 180 t-stat since. I think I am done for awhile.

Message: Hey Bill and SA:
Welcome to the 4.7 Z-tube club!
Yep, good looks in the engine bay, great sound, and performance gains do seem to justify the cost.
SA, re: your fit, did you play around the with TB end of the tube and turning it till it cleared the A/C lines and also pointed the filter where you thought it would get the best flow?
I've done this about 3 times, now satisfied with the tube (not hitting the A/C lines) and filter being right in the middle of the fender well and engine block, away from the tranny module heat sink, yet pointing at the opening in the grill where the rubber flap was.

Message: I am in dallas as well but no z-tube. Only the airraid. Definitely considering switching over to get rid of that air box. I am in the Carrolton area.

Message: It seems you guys are really happy with the Z-tube. SA, did you have issues with placement because of the TB Spacer?
I am looking at putting a Z-tube also, and just looking for some more insight prior to installation. Do you have an e-mail I write to?

Message: Dallas folks, I'm in Pampa, 50 miles from Amarillo. I did play around with the placement some before I cut it down. I wanted to keep it butted up flush with the TB. It hit the hood if I tilted it up too much. Hit the AC lines if I tilted it down. The PowerAid TB spacer moved everything forward on mine about an 1 1/2". With the Z-tube 2" shorter everything fits great. Maybe ya don't have to cut it down, but it looked to me like I didn't have a choice. The Filter end allows for alot of adjustment forward and backward. I took off the rubber air dam like everyone suggested.

Message: Just wondering if the z-tube will void the warranty on my 2001 Dakota?
