Subject: Losing power uphill - no excelleration IP: Logged
Message: Just got an 03 dakota. V6 4.9l 4x4 manual
transmission. Driving home I learn that
the truck has a hard time accellerating
uphill and loses momentum at high
speeds uphill on the highway. Truck runs
smooth, no noise from the engine, no
shaking, rattling or vibrating. Its had the
muffler / exhaused repaired, the transfer
case and chain replaced, and fluids
checked. What could be the issue?

Message: It could be taller than stock tires. Also, is this an RC, CC or QC? Either way Dakotas are heavy for their size and a 4x4 Quad Cab will put the 3.9 at it's limit for power. More than likely you'll be downshifting on steep grades.

Message: How many miles on the truck?
Cat or cats could be clogged up.

Message: In all seriousness depending on the miles on this
truck you should get the cats checked.
You would most notice this when the engine is under
load.
