Subject: gibson or flowmaster for 4.7? IP: Logged
Message: first of all, does flowmaster even make an
exhaust for a 4.7, because I went by there
website and they didnt have a fit for the 00
model v8's, just 97-99. Anway, which do you
think would be better the gibson or the
flowmaster 50 series?

Message: I think most people using the flowmaster go with the SUV series. I am using Magnaflo which I got a custom install single/dual. Will you be installing the exhaust yourself or go to a shop?

Message: I'm happy with the Gibson 3" single Stainless cat-back. I don't think the Flowmaster is SS. The SUV Delta force 50 series would be comparable, and I'm pretty sure you can buy it. It depends on the sound you like.

Message: I like a deep throaty sound, but not to loud to
be annoying when driving all the time.

Message: I can't speak for the Flowmaster, but I also installed a 3 inch Stainless Gibson single side catback. I'm happy with it. When I first change the system, it was noticibly louder than stock. Not bad. I like it now after I got use to the change. Going through the gears, winding up above 2500, she gets pretty loud. At cruising, you hear the hum but no where near annoying. That's my 2 cents.

Message: I went with the Flowmaster SUV 50 Series Performance muffler, $79 from Summit.
(FM says this is the best flowing muffler for a 4.7 DAK, deeper rumple than the 50 Delta Series, even quieter in the cab at highway speeds as the casing is thicker)
(I would think their 40 Series mufflers are a bit louder with more inerior noise.)
Took it to a local muffler shop and had them order dual 2 1/2 inch mandrel bent pipes and two 3 inch chrome tips. Total of $279 to get the parts and installation.
Depending on the sound you want will help you make your decision...I've heard of Gibson owners taking them right off and going with Flowmaster as the sound wasn't right for them or not loud enough.

Message: Yes Flowmaster does make a catback for the 4.7. It is a 50 series single 3". Summit or Jegs does not have it in their catalog yet. It is around $197. Just call them and they will fix you up. That is what I have on my truck. It sounds great. There is no interior resonance.

Message: Do you have any sound samples for these mufflers ?
Also, will the Flowmaster SUV 50 Series Performance muffler fit in place of the stock muffler so that I can retain the stock tailpipe ?
What is the noise level in the cab at cruise ?

Message: I've got the Flowmaster Cat Back system on my '00 RC 4.7L, got it from 21st Century Exhaust in Florida. I dyno'd after the install and results were not that great. 1.9 HP, and 0 lb ft TQ.
Sounds Awesome though, well worth $170 for just the sound impovement.

Message: I got the 50 series SUV and really like the sound. I have had compliments on the sound, and the interior ressonance is not much louder than stock. Don't expect a large performance gain from just a muffler on the 4.7. Dodge seems to have done a fairly nice job on the stock exhaust.

Message: I know the 40 series flowmaster is loud like I want, so my question is; is the 50 series SUV pretty close to the 40 series on the outside????
