Message: Anyone ever experience this I have a backfire through the throttle body when warm after a drive then restart idle fine than take off will sputter and if you stay on gas it will backfire through throttle body and if let off gas get back on it clears up and runs fine. Has new O2's new tuneup complete wires, plugs, cap, rotor. Fuel pressure good changed TPS. Good readings form coolant temp 197+or- few degrees IAT 160's NO CODES. This truck is an 02' with 3.9L just turned 99,000 earlier this week. STFT's go to the negatives to -30 briefly than return to normal when it acts up and LTFT's normal range. ????

Message: hey guys, the backfire may be due to oil coming through the wires to the computer shorting it out. check the plugs to your ecu and see if they have oil on them. if so, your gonna need a new ecu and oil sending unit and coat the plugs in electrical grease. if not, check your injectors and have the electrical pulse checked. also have your injector plugs in correct order and have your valves checked. one may be bent. i had the same problem on a 1998 dodge dakota 5.2L 318 4x4, and a 2001 dakota slt 3.9L v6

Message: Dan, I replaced the coolant temp. sensor recently I thought it
was running a bit on the cold side like 182-185 give or take a
few degrees , now running bout 192-197 and high as 201?
Think I should put old one back in?

Message: Hey lance why are you refering to the ECM ? Sounds like you
refering to the oil sending unit, cause I notice around the
general area either sending unit is leaking or o'ring for
distributor is leaking wondering if that's my issue?

Message: hey pete. i know it sounds strange, but oil can come up through the oil sending unit, and run through the wire loom right back into your ecm. check that asap because they are not cheap. just paid 375 for one and 500 for the other. it shorted out the ecm and caused a steady backfire with unusual injector pulse readings. i thought it was a bent valve or a flat lobe on the cam, but it was the ecm

Message: I am wondering if this could be crankshaft sensor ? Because
I see on my scan tool timing goes to 35 or so degrees all at
idle than return to 10 give or take few degrees after I shut it
off and restart it . Really getting lost on this one

Message: Update got thinking bout what lance had posted, didn't have
any oil in connectors in PCM but I carefully went through
every connector to all the sensors and came across my
upstream O2 on passagener side wasn't connected all the
way so I reconnected all the way and haven't had a backfire
or hesistation yet??? hope this problem solved ?? Will
update any change and hoping I don't need a fuel pump just
yet?
