Have a 2003 4.7 Dak and I'm reading a lot about upgrading to HO cams. Is that all I have to do is buy the cams and just have them installed, easy as that? How much do they help, realistically? Thanks.

read the old posts here. Factory H.O. Cams are a little help. Aftermarket re-grinds are the way to go. KRC has prepackaged grinds that come with the necesary spacers. They used to have their cams reground by Comp Cams I think. Otherwise, get an old set of cams and have them ground to your specs. You can't get 'NEW' cams ground at full height, so you have to re-grind old ones and add spacers. Or settle for the H.O.'s

Realistically, they make a huge difference. From the factory your 4.7 is cammed for torq and durability. You can re-cam for h.p. and cut a 1/2 second or more off your 1/4 mile time WITH NO OTHER MODS. Beleive me. I did it on my 03 CC. Read the other posts on this site. I've even heard them called magic cams :) They make that big of a difference. The swap isn't much harder than replacing a valve cover gasket. KRC will even give you the little block you will need to stop the drive chains from dropping down into the front end. No other special tools are needed.

I took a 2000 CC Dakota with a 4.7L and 112,000 miles on it and had Marty at KRC install HO cams and it woke my truck up. It put a lot of pep back into it on the 87 Octane program alone. I added a Superchips 3715 tuner to it and with 91/93 octane gas and the Performace program, my truck gets up and goes as good if not better than it did when it was new. Keep in mind thats with a well used and worn 112k mile engine that has towed an average of 1500lbs at least 1/3 of its life.

I do not know if KRC's packages are any of the "just the HO cams" themselves, I would think they would be the bogger cams but I may be wrong. Call Marty at KRC and inquire about it, he is a great guy and always up to helping out a Dodge guy.

Izzy - done a compression check to see how worn that motor is ? You're really building new power here, more than replacing lost pep. If you've really lost pep, it might be as simple as updating your O2 sensors; unless a compresion check shows leakdown. 4.7's do respond well to hotter cams and more ignition advance, as you've noticed.

The SCT power programmer I got from KRC knocked off 3/10ths off of my 200ft time at the bog alone!! I am very pleased with my SCT!! I am preparing to put the 212x cams in my 164,000 mile 00 QC. Between the cams and the "Torque Reduction" switch I am going to do to Loki this weekend, I hope to knock off at least another half second. What I wouldn't give for Loki to turn a 4 second 200ft time!! That would be sweet!!

These little 4.7's don't seem so little when you mash the go pedal to the floor!! I don't believe I have ever been so impressed with a truck as I am my dak. I bought it in 2002 and love it just as much now as I did the day i bought it!! i am a 4.7 dak owner for life!!

I have never replaced my O2 sensor and have about 180. Looking online there are two. Is that correct Kowalski? I have not looked under the truck yet. Thinking about changing mine though.

Depends on the emissions package - my '00 has 4 (on the pre cats). Federal emissions '00 have 2, on the main cat.
