Subject: Y2K dak stalling?!?!?! IP: Logged
Message: Aloha dudes and duddettes & Bernd (if your still out there?),
My 2000 Dodge Dakota V6 with alot of mods just started stalling on me. Is it an O2 sensor problem? I have an IAT mod that tricks the comp to think the engine is running cooler. Remember that flip switch and dail everyone got some years ago?
It runs for about 20 minutes when its cold, but when I try to start it up again it just turns over.
I took it to a mechanic here and he said that I should get a new ECU. Which is going to cost me well over $700.00.
Anyone please... help me!
Mahalo,
Scotty

Message: Doesn't sound like an O2 sensor problem - that should set a code. Have you checked for stored codes ? Bad PCM should set code too; like "no bus" (this can also mean less serious problems). Maybe cam or crank sensor ? Bernd disapeared years ago when his company tanked - leaving many here out of $$$ when merchandise they ordered never appeared. Reappeared briefly under another screen name and disappeared again. Many of us have gone on to custom flashed PCMs or Superchip - that IAT adjuster didn't do much...
Good luck, I remember you posting here.

Message: Mahalos Kowalski,
I really appreciate it. Thing is I did have an engine light on but thought it was just an oil change. I changed the oil and the engine light went off. Now the light is still off and the engine is still shutting off in about 15 minutes after a cold start.
Tomorrow I'm gonna get this at Checker's:
http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?mfrcode=EQU&mfrpartnumber=3030
Will it show an old engine code? I've even ordered:
http://www.auterraweb.com/dynoscankitwindows.html
Again, any help is much appreciated.
Mahalos,
Scotty

Message: Codes might still be stored. For '00 and up, turning key on off on off on (just on, not to start) will display codes in the odometer - then it ends with "pdone". The codes have been posted here if you can do a search; or if you post the code someone will usually tell you what it is.

Message: Before you start putting any parts into the truck find out what you don't have after it runs for 15mins and then stalls. From experience I'd head for the fuelpump, coil, cam and/or crank sensor all of these are known for running for a time, stop working when they get hot and then start working again after they cool off. let the truck run till it dies then check for spark at the plugs/cap. if you or hopefully the mechanic you take it too has a fuel pressure gauge hook it up and see if you have pressure when the truck dies and you try to restart it.goodluck and keep us updated on how you make out
