Message: When a company says you gain BHP from a modification what does that mean? Is that at the crank, wheels, or an estimate?

Message: Brake horsepower (bhp) is the measure of an engine's horsepower without the loss in power caused by the gearbox, generator, differential, water pump, and other auxiliary components. Thus the prefix "brake" refers to where the power is measured: at the engine's output shaft, as on an engine dynamometer. The actual horsepower delivered to the driving wheels is less. An engine would have to be retested to obtain a rating in another system. The term "brake" refers to the original use of a band brake to measure torque during the test (which is multiplied by the engine RPM and a scaling constant to give horsepower).
This type of measurement was used extensively up until 1971 when the government required manufacturers to use SAE "net" horsepower ratings.

Message: Companys use BHP to make their gains look larger than they are. If they say it will give you 10 BHP that would only be 7 rwhp.
Good explination of BHP by the way.

All drive train configurations are slightly different. Even the same config with different fluids will be different.
Everyone makes gain claims. Dyno tests can be skewed, etc.
Take it all with a grain of salt.
I'm sure there are people who will sell you their TB spacer, tornado intake insert, jet chip, etc.
Many products make claims that don't seem to ever gain on a private, independent dyno test.
