Message: Somethings i was wondering about was. The 3.9l's stock air intake is inclosed and is ported to the passenger fender correct? kepping it isolated from engine heat.
Isn't this a "cold air intake"? some people on this forum have said that aftermarket intake kits like K&N just arnt worth it.
On the other hand some people have said that swapping the stock filter with a k&n washable filter works just as well.
also, does the k&n FIPK intake kit (5.2L/5.9L) fit on a 3.9L?

Message: It will not put you back in your seat but the K&N is dyno for about five horses up in the higher rpm.My K&N was my first mod on my 2003 4.7 Quad.I could feel a little power but the guarantee and the dyno papers came with it (Sound Is Awesome).People think just because the stock unit is coming from the front finder its cool air it might be there’s other factors as well.Look at the slinky shape of your stock air tube that’s a restriction right there the air in the K&N TUBE is straight threw nice Flow right into the throttle body no detours before it gets there .The stock air box is inclosed and has no heat shield has to warm up inside it probabley enough too change the temparature of the air comin from the finder. Intake lid condensed the airflow almost down to 2 and a half inches before flowing into the throttle body. The K&N is three inch one shot straight to the throttle body. The Guarantee and the dyno sheets come with it also comes with a heat deflector if your not satisfied you send it back but I can guaranty you will like.Everyone has opinions and that’s there right this is my personal experience. Hope this helps. Oh you will feel no gain with just the drop in tried both.
