R/Ts can reach a decent number. I own a '00 R/T lowered 3" front and back, m1 intake, gibson shorties, single 2 chamber flow 40, and a cold air intake. With 55 series kumhos, 3.92s, and the speedlimiter deleted, i was paced by a Z28 running 140mph just before i would hit 5000rpm and it didnt take all that long to there either.
Of course being lowered and also having a bed cap helped out a bit. But that'll soon be changed when i build the stroker and put my T56 behind it!

132mph in mine (V6) - on the way up to Houston. "Slightly" modified - no nitrous or boost used and custom programmed PCM.

I am just wondering. How did you delete the Speedometer? I never drove over 125mph because I didn't want to destroy the speedometer. Additionally my winter tires are only rated for 190kph so it anyway was kind of risky to drive 200kph (=125mph).

My mods are simular: I drive (in summer)255/50 17" Toyo tires, Koni red shocks and have a Mopar tonneau cover. The engine mods are M1 intake, Fatman trottle body, K&N cold air intake, Gibson Headers, Dynomax exhaust, race cat. So 140mph should be possible - cool :)

Tim

..interesting how many V6 Daks reach unbelievable top speeds!

It is also interesting that the Bugatti Veyron with way less aerodynamic resistance that a Dakota needs 270 HP to drive 155mph but another 730HP to reach its top speed of 253mph. So think about it! I am sure a Dakota needs 300HP to drive real 120mph (our 125mph shown on the the speedo are probably real 110-115mph).

Check this for real speed...

(1) Remove the stop pin from the speedo - it will turn farther
(2) There is NO speedo cable...('98+ models)
(3) Clocked with a friend in his '04 Camaro (SLP enhanced but factory tires) on the way up to Houston (made it there in 1hr 40 minutes - Austin to Houston)
(4) With the properly tuned suspension and airflow directors (or a good plate) under the vehicle - it's very possible.

foxx, you can easily calculate mph based on a know rpm at a known speed. It's commonly known as ratios and proportions. Here's a simple one for you- 1700 rpm/60 mph = 3400 rpm/120 mph. Now you can calculate how many rpms you would be turning at 125 mph or how many rpms I was turning at a mere 135 mph.

That would also have to include final drive ratio (OD gear) and actual tire diameter.

Final Drive = (OD Ratio * Axle Ratio)
Tire Diameter = (2*((Width*Aspect Ratio)/2540))+Rim Diameter
Speed in MPH= ((MPH * FD) * 336)/Tire Diameter

Put those into Excel and you can figure out what your speed will be in OD. You can easily change that to any gear if you know the gear ratio (3.55:1 can be used to find what speed your doing in 4th).

I could just email you a spreadsheet with all of these calculations ready to go.

@ Foxx

you can get a progammer to turn it off such as hypertech.
use a diagnostic computer or machine whatever its called to delete it, most dealerships wont.
or find someone who has the software to tune 5.9pcm.

I know for a fact that my R/T can reach higher speeds the way it is with a change of gear ratio or with the T56 6spd.

Fasstdak, the gear ratios don't matter. We would only be talking about high gear. Double the rpm and you double the speed in any given gear. The horsepower required to do the job is an entirely different matter.

If you want to do a spread sheet, do one that calculates the horsepower required to reach a specific speed. You just need to determine coefficient of drag, frontal area, air density and maybe a couple of other things.

As PACO noted, you can reach higher speeds with different final ratios. This would be primarily caused by two factors, one would be less hp lost in the drivetrain and the other would be your maximum power would come in at a point closer to your top speed.

The HP is a factor in the calculation, but yes...there's also the coefficient of drag that comes into play (aerodynamics).

500HP in a brick - not a very efficient top-end speed
500HP in a sleek body - much higher top-end speed.

Yes, I do have those calculations as well. :)

And then, there's the actual alignment specs that need to be calculated for the suspension to handle the higher speeds. Toe is a huge factor in that as well.

I already have the Mopar PCM installed and I guess I won't have a chance to change anything. And don't forget, Dodge is not officially imported to Switzerland or Germany so there is no dealership that can help.

Changing the gears is not a very good idea because the R/T isn't the fastest from 0-60mph. Installing a T56 is great. I didn't know that this will work. And unfortunately I will cost a lot, I guess.

Regards,
Tim

There are numerous websites that have calculators that will give you rpm and any given speed. All you have to do is enter the parameters mentioned by Fasstdak

No bueno about that, but even if there was they dealer they probly wouldnt do it cause its supposedly unsafe ha. Only way how mine got its fix was from my buddy at a dealership.

Yes the T56 will be a costly pain cause Keisler had to stop building the swap kit because of patent rights. So know i'll have to either hunt a kit that someones selling or customize bell housing and what not to put my T56 in it. On the good side though i wont be paying 5800 dollars, it'll drop a second atleast in a 1/4 of a mile, and i'll get better fuel milage on highways.

I've got a Tremec out of a Viper sitting here. Just need to put in new syncros and install it in the truck. It's not hard to do at all and you just have to swap out the driveshaft (shorten) and switch to a manual trans PCM. (Automatics require shifter linkage installation - marks for the holes are punched in the floorboard already).

Ive got a Tremec T56 out of a 02 z28 which is similar to the vipers and is identicly to keisler tranny kit. Will there be much customizing for clutch/brake pedal assembly and it'd nice to find something that works with the hydrolic clutch. I heard that a 5spd bell housing from a mid 90s dakota will fit the 6spd of an LT1 ya ever heard of that? I'll have to find someone to tune my pcm cause R/Ts have a different pcm that the other 5.9s. I know i'll have to delete codes and rewire some stuff maybe.
