Message: The truck is a 4.7 with a 5spd auto. It only slips after it has set for more than 5 + hours hot or cold out side. It only slips going into drive. It has 28,000 miles on it. The dealer changed the trans filters and oil at 25,000.

Message: Common complaint with the 45RFE and 5-45RFE trans. It's caused by auto trans fluid drainback into the pan. Culprit is fluid cooler return filter anti-drainback valve not sealing. Yes, it's one of the filters the dealer changed.
There's a workaround if you don't feel like making the dealer replace the filter with a new one.
When you start your truck after it's been sitting for a while, let it idle for about 10 to 15 seconds so the tranny fluid pump can build up some pressure, before you try to drive away.

Message: 2000 4.7 45rfe. same thing here, too. common problem. When idling at first startup, put transmission in neutral for 10 seconds to fill up torque converter. I wonder if they used an old filter when changed. They came out with a revised filter, supposed to have cured the problem. Here's the TSB... http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2005/21-015-05.htm
(well it says 2000-2004 Dakota, but also 2005 Ram- but this is what you have. And what were talking about.)

Message: I have the same issue. Dealer says they can't find anything first time. They changed the filter. Second time I took it in for slipping they said they changed the pump. It still slips ever once in awhile. Thrid time they say nothing is wrong. Now I am just waiting for the transmission to burn up so I can invoke the lemon law.

Message: Here is a up date on my trans problem. Left it over night. It finally slipped for them they said. They said they ordered these parts. The parts are on a 2wk back order.
converter 21046004
pump kit 21129009
body tran 21139004
The good thing is my factory power train is warranted for 70 thousand miles, The bad thing it is a pain in the butt to have to have my new truck ripped apart.
I will try for a lemon if they keep me coming back for the same thing. I love this truck, my plan is to buy it after lease is up.
