 Subject: Home brew air intake

Planning to install cold air intake kit,but im still in doubt if it makes sense.So,today I came to decision to make temporary kit.Found flexible alu pipe in building store worth 5 USD.Beside few couplings ,I need the right filter element.Think K&N will be the best.Could You tell me what type of cone filter You use??
Excuse me for stupid question,but I live in "metrical"area(Europe)Found that for intake 3 inch pipe is being used,but it means 76 milimiters.When I measured diameter of OE pipe,it is almost 100 mm what means close to 4 inch???What is a real diameter in milimeters of a filter and inner diameter of a pipe???
Have another question:as far as I can see,nobody uses heat and sound insulation on kit's pipe.I think it should be helpfull because of temperature and loudness matters.Am I right???

The air doesn't spend much time in the pipe, maybe idling.
Many have posted all sorts of insulated wrappings, etc.
I used fernco 90 degree rubber couplers, they have a very large/gentle arch/bend. NOt just a quick 90. and a straight piece of PVC. (In 5 years, the mustard gas hasn't killed me, or the engine!) It's all black color, no metal pipes.
But I imagine the metal flex like a dryer vent hose would work just as well.
And I have yet to see, an independent dyno, showing any real gains from a store bought CAI,
on a 4.7

The 3" FERNCO rubber "no hub" plumbing adapters Todd is talking about WILL clamp right onto your 4.7 Throttle body.
I'm sure they sell stuff to fit 3" ABS PLUMBING over there as they do here.

Are these fernco rubber hoses strong enough to resist collapse caused by high vaccuum between throttle body and stock air filter?

European standards are different.It is not a simple recalculation from inches to milimeters.That's why I ask for real diameters in mm.of pipe and filter to find a right pipe.
What type (ref.number) of K&N filters is commonly used for 4,7 Daks???

Your Dak already has "cold air intake" Get a K&N dropin & save yur $$...have tried homebrew/stor bought/combos-you get a different sound, & thats about all. The engines in the Daks, just dont move enought air to see much of a difference in perf. nor gas mileage. & NO, I didnt beliebe it either, so I tried,& tried, & finally went back to stock W K&N dropin. BTW AUTOZONE sells a conical filter $24USD that worked great(was loud)
Factory is tough to beat on this one yall.

The fernco will NOT collapse under load.
As Graphite said, the 3" fernco clamps right onto the TB-well. It's also hard rubber, so it will flex a bit and not leak, etc.
