Message: Getting more power is actually pretty simple in concept. But it can get expensive. You have to be acrefull not spend a boatload of cash and only get 3hp.
You also have to be carefull that the extra you do get is usable. Making 25 hp at 5500 rpm probably isn't that usefull to most truck owners. But 10 ft/lbs of torque at 2000 rpm is very usefull.
A cold air intake is a simple and (relativly speaking) inexpensive mod. It's usually worth a few ponies down low. Dropping a flat panel K&N filter into your stock box will do nothing.
A cat back exhaust sounds good, but isn't likely to net you any usable power. Still a lot of restriction from the cats and head pipe. Consider changing the entire exhaust with high flow components from the manifolds back. Headers are worth some power, but not a lot and they are expensive.
Also consider replacing the rear gears with something a little lower, like 3.92 or 4.10. Lots of bang for the buck on a 2 wheel drive truck.
Best bang for the buck is going to be reporgramming the computer. Usually well under $300. Takes 15 minutes, including opening the box and reading the instructions.

Message: AirAid is a popular brand. It's not rocket science, so making your own isn't all that difficult. Also, you can often find good prices on e-bay.
I also forgot to mention rocker arms. Increasing the ratio will act like putting in a slightly larger cam shaft. Lots of article about that.
Google is your friend.

A drop in filter will do just as much for you as a stupid so-called cold air intake that won't drop that actually intake temp even five degrees.
The v6 uses the same stock intake as the v8 and it is silly to think that the engine requires or can even use more than that. If anything can be gained from higher flowing filters it is on the top end and not "down low."
The same goes for a better flowing exhaust system. You won't benefit from it now. Get the engine to inhale better first and then you might have some use for those things later. Look at a cam or rockers and some porting to improve your intake.

Message: Excellent point - there is plenty of airflow at low rpms; N56629 is correct about this only being a small gain at higher rpms.

Message: you guys that buy v-6's and then cry more power. lol If you had gotten a V-8 to begin with you wouldn't be moaning now. and it's ironic that the price of a V-8 over a V-6 was probably a couple hundred dollars. Yet you'll spend more than that modding it for more power. And don't give me the jazz about it was a used car. they sell used Daks with V-8's too, hee hee

if that's true then maybe all the v8 guys wanting more power should put hemi's in all their daks.
no matter if its a I4 or a V10, what's wrong with wanting more power?????????

Message: well kowalski may need a little more power to push that plow through the drifts. And I suppose the Chevy guys with the S-10's and their 4.3 V-6's are praying for more power. Granted, the V-6 just doesn't have the pulsating, vibrating, rumble of a V-8. However, sometimes more power can get you into trouble, both ticket wise and accident wise.

Message: The V8s are so hard to find in the good packages. Why are people so reluctent on buying a V8-5speed, RC, 2wd? That is what I like. I do not want a EC or auto or 4wd.
