Subject: Weird Fuel problem after rebuild... IP: Logged
Message: Fresh 3.9 with 500 miles on her
This has happened twice in the last week after leaving my
truck for over 6 or 7 hours...
keep in mind this only happened twice, not everytime
I let her sit for over a period of time and cool down.
She just wouldnt start the first time until about 5 or 6 tries
of turning her over
Its like theres no fuel getting to the motor
This morning it happened again... but this time she wouldnt
start at all!
I had to buy some gas and poor it down the throttle body
to get her running (can doing this hurt anything?)
So I got her running (ran fine) and drove to my mechanic to
see if he knows what could be the problem, he says it might be a
bad fuel pump, or fuel pump relay?
Also when you listen to the motor with the hood up standing in front
of it you can hear a clicking or tapping noise, not that loud but
noticeable, my mechanic said it could be the lifters?
What do you think?
by the way, everything but the motor has 147,000 miles
Please help
Thank you,
Fed

Message: When it happens again....check to see if its a fuel or spark problem. I would go ahead and invest in a fuel presure gauge. Every car I have owned I have installed one. That way when something goes wrong you can tell right away if it is a fuel problem.
Old setup: 1/4 mile on old setup: 13.965 @ 100.10 MPH, Crappy 2.236 60' on street tires Mods: Paxton NOVI 2000 supercharger @ 10 #'s, M1 4Bbl, F&B 58mm TB, Gibson headers, JBA Y-pipe, and a Locker

Message: i would do what mopar said
care a can of starter fluid on you so if it happens and again you can spray starter fluid down the throttle body.

Message: yeah i just carry gasoline, it works great...
so far it hasnt been acting up, but in a about a week or so
whenever i have time im gonna put a new fuel pump in there
im pretty sure that is the problem because sometimes it doesnt
pump for a few seconds when i turn the key half way...

Message: When you remove the bed, remember to disconnect the gas filler tube.
And you'll need something to place the bed on, like wood or blocks. It needs to be high enough so the sides of the bed don't hit the ground, maybe 24 inches high. ?
Also, check the condition of the rubber gasket/grommet that is attached to the tank, and the filler tubes go into. The age of your truck may dictate it be replaced. You will have to order one from the dealer.
Also, check the rubber fuel lines. Source some just in case.
