Message: He could do a 318 implant. Probably the most effective mod for the Ranger.
If not tell hime to try a Ford Ranger forum. All the basics Mopar mod's will apply to a Ford as well.

Message: I had a '91 w/3.0 and a '95 Splash w/4.0. K&N worked on both. I put 180 degree t stat in them as well as a catback. Basically the same stuff as we do on Dakotas. I never did dyno testing but 1/4 mile times showed that these things helped some. Stay away from Jet chip. Mine went bad and made me think I had transmission troubles (automatic) until I took it out and threw it away. Oh yeah! If you can find a 4.7, 5.2, or, 5.9, then buy it and put it in. Big jump in H.P. I know! I've owned all but the 4.7 ...and I lost a drag race to 1 of them. Hehe

Message: I had a 95 Ford Ranger 4.0 4x4 w/3.73 5 speed and had a performance air intake and Borla exhaust and you can't compare the power of my 2001 Quad 5.9 4x4 w/3.92 to the Ranger but there is a good site like this one it's fordranger.com.

Message: hey guys thanks for the help so far. i tried to tell him that he needs a dakota. but he can't afford to trade his in right now. and that would cost alot to put a 318 in it. but i'm sure it would hall balls then. thanks again and keep the good ideas coming in on this site.

Ford Ranger:
BBK - Supercharger (4.0L), Throttle Body
JBA - Headers
Flowmaster or Gibson - Exhaust
MSD - Ignition System
K&N Intake System
There's a snotload of parts for them.
