Subject: Does my truck have a chip or NOT??? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1999 dak R/T. I bought it from a guy in houston about a year ago. I was thinking about putting a hypertech programmer, but then I called the guy that previously owned it and he said it already had one on it. He said it just sit on the back of the computer under the hood. I didn't see and couldn't find it anywhere. So, how do you tell if it has one or not?

Message: A hypertech programmer is not a "piggy back" add on like the guy is telling you. It will not, nor does not connect to the pcm under the hood. The hypertech programmer is a hand held device that uses the access port under the dash next to the steering wheel. Hope this helps.

Message: That is what I was thinking, because I looked all underneath the hood and didnt see anything. So, is there anyway I can find out if my truck has it or not?

Message: No. The only way to tell if the pcm has a hypertech tune is to plug in the tuner into the dash port to check the pcm.

Message: if he says it's "piggybacked" on the pcm it's probably a Jet Chip, stage 1 or stage 2 and not a programmer.

Message: I would think that you do not have one. Unless he has had the computer "flashed" by a programmer(and they usually put a sticker on the ECU to let ya know). IF he did in fact have a superchips than he should have given it to you at the time of purchase. THe superchips holds the factory proram in the unit just in case you ever want to go back to stock, also does not allow you to prgram all your buddies RT's with the same unit. Ask him who he had program it. If it was a JET then you would see it on the back of your ECU.
