I bought my 01 v6 about 3 months ago, never owned a dodge before. everything was good until about a month ago. I started to accelerate again after being stopped at a red light. I immediatly felt a drastic loss of horsepower, the engine started to spit out small backfires and then finally about 50 or 60 yards down the road, full power finally kicked in giving me a big jolt forward. I've got almost 60k miles on it, so I figured it was time to change the plugs/wires/distributer/rotor/air filter anyway, so I did all that. I figured it would solve my problem, but it didn't. I even took some carb cleaner and sprayed all around the vacuum hoses and around the intake manifold, but nothing changed. any other ideas?

Backfiring breaks catalytic converters. Fix it.
