Message: graphite dak wasntthe one who had the turbo. i was im his bro-in law. i took a gm-3 turbo off an 94 chevy 6.5 diesel. it worked great. no turbo lag, then w/ intercooler have very slight lag.it all depends on on the sizing of both the cold section and hot section to work or not. get the specs and call and talk to a turbo shop they should know.

Message: Yeah. It was a GM-3 Turbo that we used on Rammer's 318 Ram.
I was actually told that it would be TOO BIG and LAG VERY BADLY LOL!
It was about right actually.
Now it is NOT the same size as a T3 or T03 turbo. I think those are smaller and used on smaller cars like Honda's.
I know a place here in Arizona that sells NEW Borg Warner T04 turbo's for just under $400
You need to use an external waste gate with those. But that's another $150 but still. You can't even find good turbo's for $550 on ebay since most people OVER CHARGE for turbo's by a LOT!
As far as my project car. I'm STILL rebuilding the engine and have not bought the Turbo yet.

Message: Yup. I think the engine will be N/A at first to get everything working first.
Then I can get the turbo fabbed up and the other stuff I need and maybe make that next summer's project.
None the less. Once it's running and legal, I'd take it to SpeedWorld to test it N/A to see how well 287 cu-in small block and 5 speed will run in a Duster. :)
BTW, "Pinks" does quite a few shows out at SpeedWorld. I went to one of them.

Message: "T-3" is not enough information to judge this turbo. But most likely it is not big enough.
Turbo itself is a very small part of the turbo SYSTEM and it has to be matched-up JUST RIGHT. So I wouldn't pick anything up just because it is available (unless it is free :) ).
Also, watch out for Ebay turbos. Some of them are complete crap and not worth half of what people as getting for them...

Message: Hey rammer, have you and graphite got that fuel system figured out yet. With that much boost I think you guys need a booster pump. MSD inline pump and a 12:1 will work fine with stock injectors. If you still wanna do the extra injectors than I have a fuel pressure regualtor that adds 1 psi of fuel for every pounds of boost. I could let it go for cheap.
You do know your pistons wont last long running lean.

Message: Hey Fed, I fogot to check back. As for PINKS I forgot what vehicles raced that night. But they haven't showed that episode anyway. And I TiVo them all.
As far as turbo's being "just right". Rammer and I got talking to some guys at the track, and especially the guy who repairs them. He says you can make a LOT of turbo's work with tuning. Sure, you can have one TOO SMALL. But for example, everyone said that GM-3 from the Chevy 6.5 we stuck on rammer's truck would lag like a mo fo.
Sh*t!!! It went into boost almost immediately!!!
The only thing I would worry about would be something too restrictive on the exhaust. Other than that you can make stuff work without using a "Turbo chart" like everyone says you HAVE TO DO.
Mopar318, we never had time to work on that control any more. Rammer rebuilt the GM-3 and for some reason he gets smoke now out the tail pipe LOL! I guess a seal must have fukkered up or something. He had a biatch of a time getting the thing apart over the course of several days so who knows. I'm sure it was fixable, but we can get a new Borg Warner T-04 for $400. That's cheaper than the rip off's sell them for used on ebay!!!

Message: Funny. The Borg Warner GM-3 form a 6.5 GM Diesel rammer used was more restrictive on the enxhaust side than the T04 will be!
I will post some pics later.
The place is called Arizona Tractor and Turbo
In Phoenix, AZ
You will need an external waste gate with the Borg Warner T04 but still then you are talking only $550 or so for all new stuff. Then you just need a blow off valve and the rest of the fabrication and fuel stuff.

Message: Here's Rammer installing his new T04
I think it was in the $400 range NEW.
His garage is as full of sheeeet as mine is!
So far it wasn't making over 2PSI of boost when we tested it out. We could hear it spool really soon after he hits the throttle. I think he has an air leak to look for :p
We'll get the bugs worked out and see if his holds together before I try this on my Dak :)
