MY PARENTS JUST BOUGHT A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA AND MY DAD IS SAYING THAT THE TACOMA WITH THE 4.0 6CYL DBL CAB LNG BED WILL OUT TOW AND OUT PERFORM A DODGE WITH THE SAME FEATURES JUST WITH THE 4.7 AND HE WENT TO EDMUNDS TO GET THE QUOTE AND ITS USING THE 3.7 IN THE DAK WHT DO I DO CUZ HES SPREADING A BAD NAME FOR DODGE SAYING THE 4.7 IS WEAKER THAN THE 4.0 V6 and he doesnt listen very well DODGE ALL THE WAY BABY!!!!!!!!!

You might want to push the button labeled "Caps Lock" until the little light turns off.
The 4.0 does make a hair more HP than the 4.7 standard output, but it's short on torque in comparison (24 lb-ft.)
Dodge's towing capacity appears to depend on axle ratio. Last I looked, the towing capacity was about 7000 lbs for 4.7L Dakotas with 3.92 gears, whether standard or high output. IIRC the Toy tops out around 6500.

I would love to have a tow-off with one of these Toyota knuckleheads. Let's tow my trailer (loaded, of course)and head north out of the San Fernando Valley to Lancaster (it's up CA HWY14). Do a timed run and see who turns in a better showing.
Pretty sure it'll be me.
Horsepower is what you need to go fast (as in racing), torque is what you need to move a load down the road.
What's your left foot doing?

Once again, idiots are using peak #'s to compare two very different trucks. To see how they would compare towing, you'd want to look at the torque characteristics of both motors at different rpms, not just peak. The Dodge will have more torque AND more horsepower at the lower rpms most commonly used in real driving.

stop yelling (why don't you both hook your trucks together at the bumper and floor it to see which one will have worst damage).I figure the one with more torque will rip others bumper off first if the are rated the same.

I drive both and I'll take my 2000 Dakota any day. Although, the 2005 Taco is incredibally nice...rather have my v8.

Now that was funny toolfan. Although not a 4.7 Dak or a 4.0 Toyota.
It looked like the Durango was letting the Toy ATTEMPT to pull it, then the Durango went and dragged the Toy like a helpless bug flopped onto it's back!!!

Pretty funny Vid but unless that durango was severely underpowered it would destroy the truck just because it has a lot more weight which = more traction.
