Subject: Would It Run? IP: Logged
Message: The EPA mandates the use of differant gasoline formulas in the United States.
If I took California gas to Florida....would it work?
There are gas shortages now in some states because of a shortage of Ethinol, the EPA says has to be in the gas.
Think about that the next time you say your vote doesn't count.

Message: if im not mistaken here... but wasnt the use of ethinol designed for flex fuel vehicles known as being E85 capable.... now i know there vehicles out there that are capable of runnin E85 gas but what if ya got a vehicle that your not sure of... it could be a costly mistake to get the wrong type of fuel... and on the news they made it sound like the ethinol is replaceing the additive called MTBE, not sure i caught the tailend of the subject...

Message: E10 is rapidly replacing gas with MTBE additives. E85 can't be used in most vehicles but E10 can be. To financially benefit from E85 the price has to be about 30% cheaper than regular gas. Here's some excellent info on using E85 in stnadard engines.

Message: Scott C, I also heard that they will replace MTBE with ethanol. I understand that it will LOWER the octane in gasoline, but I could be wrong.

Message: You guys are so clinical discussing the relative merits and disadvantages of Ethinol verses MTBE. So veddy, veddy intelectual.
The reason we get bad performance and gas mileage is because polititians forced the oil companies to put the junk in the gas in the first place!
Chevron told the government, last year, they had gasoline that met all the requirements of gas with Ethinol and MTBE, but they were told to put Ethinol in anyway.
MTBE is a refining by-product, so toxic they had trouble getting rid of it. Ethinol is what Archer, Daniels Midland, the world's largest producer of corn products manufactures.

Message: Governments make much more than oil companies on each dollar you spend for gas. New York taxes per dollar, not gallon.
