Subject: Pre-Cats IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone removed just the pre-cats but kept the main cat? Any gain in mpg.
Thinking of doing it, don't want to eliminate the main cat but they only used the 3 cat system on a few years.
Not worried about the O2's, I can weld bungs in to take care of that.
I have JBA headers and catback system, but haven't put the headers on yet so I didn't look at the precats to see how restrictive they are (if at all).
Just wondering?
Oh yeah 01 5.9 QC.
thanks

Message: Most seem to remove the third cat instead since its easier and doesn't affect the sensors. Should be a small difference either way. The precats affect the factory hp rating by adversely by 5 hp if that helps with your decision. Probably a similar gain either way.

Message: Yea but the precats hinder flow right out of the cylinders, a normal cat isn't much of a restriction :)
After putting the JBA catback on, it was louder than I thought possible with 3 cats and a muffler!
Wouldn't have bothered but the price was too nice. Stainless catback for $266 shipped - new.
