Message: In spite of advertising, my experience with a number of vehicles is plugs make little difference. Exotic 'U', 'V' and other shapes make less difference.
Well, that's a lie; I put conventional plugs in my RX-2 and when I wanted power there was none at all...
Platinum only wears out much slower. That is part of how today's cars go 100,000 miles between "tune-ups."

Message: Always check the gap on new plugs AND if you remove and reinstall. Gap is normally close to right on but your going to find one every now and then that isn't. I even bought a set of AC's once and one plug had no threads at all. Look under your hood for plug gap. It' there

Message: I don't consider myself wise on Dakotas as the true wise men that are in these forums. Plugs happens to be something I got possesed with many many years ago plus I had my own shop for over 40 years. Between my autos and hundreds upon hundreds of customers I had a lot of plug information locked in my head.
To start with platnium plugs will improve your engine firing percentage better then other plugs IF you have a week ignition. Coil, wires, cap, rotor, Something week or wore out causing weak spark. The reason platniums will cover for this is low resistance. Like 5 or 6 thousands making it very easy for them to fire BUT WITH A WEAK SPARK. Not to over kill I'm going to jump to the other end of it. THe best plug for dakotas is CHAMPION . Reason is they have 75,000 ohms resistance. If your ignition is in good shape your truck will run great with them. They will give the hotest spark plus this resistance holds arc over back longer. This is exactly what we need with spark knock. I go one better. CHAMPION TRUCK PLUGS. They have 85,000 ohms resistance and better arc over hold back yet. Just what we need. NOW .. If you do have spark knock it is not the plugs causing it UNLESS they by chance are going to far into the combustion chamber. You can have carbin buildup also but most likely it is the plenum gasket. You might think yours is ok but all leaks start out small and grow. Some fast and some slower. Fix the real problem and run the right plugs . Bet money nobody listens and this is last time i'm saying it. There's a lot more to it but this is enough to get it across.

Message: Obio3,
The instructions for my Jacobs specify el-cheap-o copper plugs for better feedback to the unit.
My mechanic put in Platinums when he put in the new heads and it almost wouldnt run, until I put the Autolites back in.
I use Autolites because, when the truck was new in 98 I couldn't find the specified Champions.
Question is, do you think non Platinum Truck Plugs might work well with the Jacobs?

Message: Obio3,
Thanks for the info. I'm listening!
I already ordered a Hughes plenum plate.
Do you use the Champion 4071?
Do you think a colder truck plug is appropriate?
You could make a signature line for this site that includes your "so little time" AND something like
Use Champion Truck Plugs!
That way, it will automatically post everytime.
Thanks again

Message: Shatto. Jacobs or MSD or any other after market does it's own thing, None of which I like. I have run both. Sold the MSD and the 2 jacobs burned out in no time. Fact is, the Jacobs junk went to the dump a week or so ago. I never seen no improvement in power as promised. No improvement in gas milage either. All BS. Yes I tried them on several differant engines to include Dodge, Ford, Chevy, Nessan and toyota and a Dodge Raider Mitsu. Jacobs is a smooth operator. You can not see inside his unites. SEALED PERIOD. I'd bet money there's nothing in them that was actually designed to improve anything. A good cap, rotor, 8MM wires and Champion Truck plugs works sweet and actually does things that are noticable. Another big Item is your coil if you have just one. put one on that puts out 30,000 volts with a metal case And when you put this coil on instead of opning the plugs an extra 5 thousands, open them 10 thousands.. You do all of these things, You will see improvements. Not a mericale fix. this does a little here and a little there and so on ading up to a nice investment. Use the Champion Truck plugs the book calls for. If you have a spark knock get serious and find out why. For sure it is not the plugs doing it unless they screw into the combustion chamber to far. There are valid reasons the plugs are not the problem but thats another long story. The only time colder plugs are REQUIRED is if you are running a S/C or TURBO or your engine is souped up a considerable amount.
