Subject: 4.10 gears are great! IP: Logged
Message: i've been talking about doing the 4.10s for a while and finally did. if you have 3.55s now, this is the best mod i ever did. ho cams didn't do much for this 04 dakota like they did for my 00 dakota. but these gears beat the cams in either truck!
off the line it wasn't a big spinner and now i can rip both tires up (good lsd) from a slow roll, definitely from a stop! good mod, will post new quarter mile times when i have them.
also on the highway i am now at 2000 rpm at 60 mph instead of 1700. it's great cause i don't need to downshift when passing slow traffic or changing speeds or hills. but now when it does downshift, it makes for an even better pass.
only thing to consider is i use to have alternate passing gear go to 80 and second gear off the line went to 70 (alt passing gear found on new 5 spd automatics with total 6 gears). now alt passing gear hits about 68 or 69 and second gear only 61. so some passing manuevers will be in drive instead of second but not all. anyways drive has alot more power now anyway. just my feedback. hope it helps someone thinking about it. will post gas mileage times when i can stop flooring it at stop lights and racing people. lol

Message: Great glad you enjoying them. I agree gears (mine 4.56) the best mod out there. Wakes up that 4.7. Be easy and break them in correctly.

Message: Awesome. I wonder if you have smaller tires than mine. Seems like you don't get any more from your 2nd gear (RPM's vs MPH) than my 4.56's in my 4X4
I used to be able to hit 80+ with the 3.55's before it shifted to 3rd. Now it's close to 70 like you. If I punch it from 65 or so it only drops into 3rd now. But 3rd is still in the power band and still accelerates great.
And at 75 or so on the highway a slight throttle increase accelerates nicely without shifting.
As far as break in??? You all saw how I broke mine in LOL!!!
No really I drove it some miles doing the routine break in and then had to tow that very next weekend with only 100 miles or so on them.
They actually seem very quiet now. Except the LSD chatter on sharp slow turns since I used synthetic. I still need to get some Amsoil LSD additive and try that before I swap fluid back to normal oil :(
From what I have ready MANY people with the Aburn LSD get chatter when they switch to synthetic. That kinda sucks.

i got them off ebay. two guys sell and one will go down on price if you contact him (not the guy i bought if from -realized after the sale when other guy emailed me and gave me better offer)
gears were $200 shipped and $100 for install kit. install prices ranged from $250-500. 250 was some guy at a dodge dealer gonna do it at home but when i found a shop to do it for the same i DEFINITELY went for that cause there was a physical place to go complain if something went wrong.
so, $550 all together for a 2wd to get some tire spinning power.
will post gas mileage numbers. this tank shouldn't count. he he he.

Message: I know most people that have done the gear swap have been very happy with the results. GraphitDak being a prime example. Have you seen any of his video's after his gear swap? All I can say is AWESOME! He's even getting second gear chirps on dry pavement with an automatic! Of course he's got some other mods going on also. His QC is bad a$$!

Message: Jason, I'm really interested in how your highway mileage is affected 75-85MPH,,, that's if you can drive that fast where you live. I've been considering the 4.10 swap, but haven't done it because I drive so many highway miles. A lot of people have posted that thier mileage has increased a bit or stayed the same under normal city/hwy mix, but I haven't seen any comments on high speed driving.
Searching Ebay,,, search on "9.25 gear*" that's if you have the 9 1/4" rear end.

Message: i wouldn't bet on that speed being better mileage. i do a mix also but alot of 70 mph driving. however there are stoplights along the way. a couple nice stretches without them but i'd say i'm a mix here in southern maryland. i will post my mileage numbers to see if they increase. i've been 16.2 -17.0, mostly 16.6 or 16.7. this tank was 15.8 i think but i was pretty hard on it alot and i had to estimate that i was 20 miles past when i remembered to reset odometer after filling.
i will post numbers from this tank.

Message: 16.9-17.0mpg with the 4.10 gears. this is a very slight improvement over the 3.55 gears. i may be driving easier or on the gas less but it may also be cause you don't need much gas or to downshift when passing or climbing a grade. with our second overdrive, i'm crusing at 2000 rpm at 60. i used to cruise 1700 at 60.

Message: 17.33 recorded today. that makes for a small increase in gas mileage. about 1/2 mpg more. i may be relaxed on the gas more cause i don't have to downshift all the time and don't have to push on the gas to pass someone. before if i downshifted i kinda stayed into it a little while to make it worth the downshift. hard to explain. i use to turn my overdrive off alot during heavy traffic that i wanted to stay close to car ahead of me and stuff like that, so i would get better throttle response. the 4.10 gears give you the throttle response you need without dipping into third gear. i love them.

Message: Any idea if i would experience the same results by putting 4:10s on my 3.9? I have a new 9.25 rear end with lsd waiting to be installed, just not sure if i should do it or not.
Thanks
