First thing I'd do with a new vehicle is install a pre-oiler along with by-pass oil filters and air filter from Amsoil. At the first oil change Amsoil everywhere it goes. That will assure it is still in super condition when it is paid off. And since I'd go longer between changes, I'd save money.
Second thing is to pay as high payments as possible (telling the lender to apply the monthly extra to principal) so I would be out from under the interest ASAP. That saves money.
Check Costco. Their auto program has a refinance program and sometimes you can do that and cut your payments. Saving money
Now that I saved all that dough, upgrade! My truck, not the banks.

save all you money on them pre oilers and bypass filters. the way some oil filters and oil is today. seen people go over 10,000 miles on stuff like amsoil, M-1, Greman Castrol 0w-30. all you need is a good filter like amsoil new 15,000 mile filter, or M-1 has a new extended oil filter that can go over 10K.

if yuo didnt get the HO version of the 4.7. you can get HO cams and do a cat back exhaust. I would say superchip programmer but its not out for the 04 and 05, bored out TB. some 4.10 gears will make the truck quicker. syn in your engine, tranny, differentrals will give you some more HP but not that much. also remove the clutch fan and get a electric fan will free some more hp too.

Amsoil manufactures the best synthetic lubricants. They protect better and last longer than conventional oils. Oil changes can be extended by using Amsiol filtration. The pre oiler pumps oil around the engine before it is running, eleminating the lack of oil that can damage an engine starting, part of the reason Semi's idle at truck stops.
Example; my 98 3.9 V-6 automatic has bypass filtration, Amsoil air cleaner, Amsoil ATF-4, 0-30 motor oil and it is still running along after 500,000 miles. I change engine oil when the Amsoil Oil Analyzers Lab says to; anywhere out to 100,000 miles give or take. Spin-on filter is changed after 14,000 miles.
That help?

you have 500,000miles on your truck and haven't had to rebuild the engine trans or rear end?

the pre oil pump mounts where? how much does this system cost not including oil and filter?

how long have you been using all this stuff you keep talking about?

thanks!

See pretty pictures at:www.amsoil.com
The pre-oiler, like the by-pass filter can be any old place that suits your fancy. And transferrable to your next vehicle if this one ever wears out. I don't have one.
When the truck was new, I installed my by-pass filters under the bed behind the passanger. The filters and fourteen feet of hose give me a 7 quart system.

Engine: (Amsoil Series 2000 0-30 oil)
I had to replace warn out valves and the cracked heads at 350,000 mi., and at 500,000 mi. the camshaft. Also have replaced an alternator, some H2O pumps and fan clutches. One air filter. I clean and oil the Amsoil foam each 30,000 mi.

Transmission: (Amsoil ATF)
Solenoid set and computer control module at 400, something miles.
Torque converter would lock and unlock on cruise. Three dealers and two transmission shops said to replace it. Oil Analyzers Tech said there was no sign of excessive wear. Drove 400,000 more miles. Replaced throttle position sender. Problem solved.

Rear End: (Amsoil)
Replaced roaring, desintigrating differental around 350,000 miles with limited slip unit, which supprisingly cost less.

I am unable to count high enough to tell you how many break pads, BUT! the shoes have 500,000 miles on them.
Why am I answering you at Two AM?

Also just picked up an '05 4.7 dakota. I was wondering if the '04 performance pieces, such as the exhaust are all the same between '04-'05?
Also, does anyone make a pulley set for these yet?
Thanks

Not sure what will fit between 04-05, but I know Dodge did quite a bit of redesigning on the Gen IV Dakota. I'm thinking not that much will transfer.

Exhaust might not be a big deal, but headers likley would. I'd think the intake would swap as well. Anything that's specific to the engine; like a TB or something, would swap fine.

thanks for the info, lets see if I can get this thing into the 15's. lol

The first thing I'm going to go after is the 3.55 gears. The trucks shifts out of 2nd gear @ 84 mph, TALL! It came with this 31" tall tires from the dealer, that doesn't help much either.
Is there any 15" wheels that will bolt on to this truck? I noticed the '05 has a huge 5.5" bolt pattern, which blew my idea of throwing '04 15" wheels on.
Reason why I want to throw 15" wheels on is because I just bought all new 6 ply trailer towing rubber for the fullsize blazer. I believe its around 26"-27" in diameter so it'll help my gear out alittle more too.
Accepting ideas! :)

i have a flowmaster single pipe 40 series on my 5.2 and a home made intake much like the K&N one. i dropped .5secs in the 1/4 and my 0-60mph drop from 8.3 to 7.4secs. total cost for just the muffler and the home made intake was $120.

have a sound clip but was unable to find it on streetfire.net

Hopefully the 4.7 responds as well as your 5.2 did!
Ebay Intake was supposed to be here already. Going with a Custom Borla XS "dual" exhaust.

Keep me updated on what you find for modifications trucky.

I'll post before/after 1/4 mile times when I get the intake.

just got my floor mats (haha) and the K&N air charger today. I got the palstic one cuz it adds 2 more horsepower than the metal tube...it sacrificed some throaty sound but i took power over pretty. ANY ways...im relly struggling to find dual exhaust under 400$ (installed). I told an exhaust shop today i would get the super 40 from flowmaster and he could bend all the pipes for me...but he said that would cost too much and suggestion a 'raven exhaust' kit. any one heard of raven? i havnt. i found a good deal on a flowmaster kit but the pipes arent stainless steel...heres the Question: is it ABSOLUTLEY neccessary to have stainless steel over aluminum? does it rust that bad? please help

Where do you live? If you drive around in salt every day you might consider stainless if you got the $$ for it. Otherwise, you don't have to get stainless, that's for show cars. Aluminized lasts a long time too.
The Raven sounds good on my friend's LS1, it'll be pretty throaty/loud so get ready!

Another question for anyone- I read that you can't get 3.90 gears from a vendor for the front axle on the 4wd dakota. This can't be right, because its a freakin' option from the factory. Do you guys have any info on this? Its a 8" front axle, right?

Well I posted this last night but I don't know where my post went. Now I forgot the numbers.
Ran the truck with the gtech pro in bone stock form. Got a 16.50 then a 16.56 I think.
Then I installed the cold air intake right there in the dark, ran it again.
This time I got a 16.65 and 16.67 or something like that. Either way I'm a tenth slower.
Do these new '05's not like modifications or what? :(

theres no way thats right cuz k&n tested the 05 4.7 with a 10HP gain with dynos to prove....it's either the brand u got sucks or u installed it wrong (in the dark)...cold air intake is never worse than stock
