Message: Put it in park rev it up to a about 4,000 and dump it in to drive. Well at least that's how I chirped the tires in my old Datsun 210. Probably not a good idea with your Dak.

Message: I dont think you wana try jeffsters suggestion.
Put it in Drive, then Hold the break down with your left foot, and gas the throttle to the point your back tires are almost going to spin. When the tree hits the last yellow stage release the break and floor it. GL!

Message: It depends on the engine you have. A 5.9 has serious wheelspin at most tracks, and loading the converter past 1800 rpm usually means lost time and wasted tires. I find that loading to 12-1400 rpm and rolling into the throttle at the start gives me the best times. It only takes part of a second to get to full throttle. but it helps control spin. Engines with less low-end torque may be able to load the converter harder, but it will take some experimentation.

Message: I have a 1993 3.9L V-6 Automatic with a Towing Package. What I do is I put the brake on and rev it to about 1500 rpm (right before the tires break free). Then I release the break and lay into the gas, and this usually gives me really good starts. If I go above 1500 rpm then my tires break loose and I can't get a good start, so just like Fluid said, you need to find your tires breaking free point and guide off of that.

Message: Dakotazex; Just a suggestion from some high mileage trans tear downs. Using manual low to launch your truck hard, (whether towing or racing) will help the rear roller clutch in the trans live longer. Start in manual low at whatever rpm gives you the best 60ft. and shift to drive as soon as you can control wheelspin. Feel free to correct me here, but if I remember correctly, Manual low applies the Low-Reverse band which supports the output shaft better. I believe drive 1st uses the primary clutch and allows the shaft to deflect more under heavy load.
