Subject: chips vs. module IP: Logged
Message: for the 2001 3.9l dakota what would be recomended? i was comparing the superchips, the jet module and the venom 400. the venom seems to be the best adding 25% more horsepower but i have never heard of them. i like the superships because i can adjust for the tires and gears but also the jet 2 module i have heard a lot of good things about. any recomendations?

Message: You can't really go by how much horsepower they claim. It really depends on your factory tune, not all trucks are created equal. Some trucks may be running leaner from the factory than others, so it is hard to say how much you will gain.
I have Superchips and I can tell you first hand that the highest Performance setting puts so much advance on the timing that it requires minimum 91-93 Octane. So unless you plan on running an octane booster every tank, I wouldn't want to go higher.
I went with Superchips because it also funtions as a trouble code reader. And it adjusts shift firmness, top speed limiter, and rev limiter too. Plus if you need to adjust your speedo after a tire change it will do that as well.
My truck shifts HARD under WOT now, if I wasn't AWD it would definately break loose 2nd to 3rd.
