Hi everyone,
I own a Dak 2000 3.9 Ltr V6, Bare Bones, Single Cab, Standard Tranny, no mods yet, 70,000 miles. Right now I can cruise at a top speed of between 100 and 110 MPH. Depending on the fuel I run I can hit and maintain 108-110 on a level highway on a good day, but rarely, and it helps to have a slight down hill slope. Let's just say for now that my top end speed is 100 to 103. That I can hit on any given day--usually every day, hahahaha.
But alas, 110 just ain't fast enough for me and I'm ready to start making mods as I have just paid the truck off, finally.
Although power off the line is important to me, top end speed is more important.
With that said:
1.) Is there anything I can do gear and/or tire wise to increase my top speed. By "gear" I mean in the rear end or the tranny...
2.) And, do high performance trannies exist that I could deploy to gain a higher top end speed without a high risk of mechanical disaster to the motor or anything like that?
3.) Can I enhance the top end speed without sacrificing too much power?

Before the safety nazi's jump in here, let me try and help a little with the technical aspects.
Since you have a manual trans, 5th is OD. Your V6 dosen't make enough torque to run an overdrive at a faster speed. So the trick would be to change the rear gear to get to the top speed in 4th, which is 1:1. That way you can make better use of the little torque that you have.
With a 30" tire, 1:1 final trans gear, and a 3.00 rear gear, your theoretical top speed would be 163 at 5500rpm's. Sounds good on paper, doesn't it? But with about the same aerodymanic profile as my house, you'll never go that fast. But you should be able to add 5-10mph to your top end.
Of course, you'll lose you bottom end torque application. Oh well, life's fuill of trade offs.

You're a moron. Benny Hill once said, when you assume, you make and ASS out of U and me. You shouldn't assume that I drive like that when other people are on the road. I'm a responsible adult. And I didn't say I go that fast on the streets. I said highway, idiot. I travel at night a lot in the wee hours of the morning when no one else is on the road and only in remote places. You should keep opinions like that to yourself and mind your own fu**ing business. Why don't you go to a site for old grannies. It sounds like you'd relate to them well.

Tonneau cover will help with upping your top speed, especially downhill. Right now my 5spd v6 tops out at 120 on a downhill, but I'm in the appalachian mountains so the hills are / . Changing your gears will help or having your computer flashed. Instead of doing all that I went and bought a 5.9 with vortech supercharger with an already custom flashed ecu and ignition system. Now I just have to put it in whenever I get the flywheel.

I scraped up a few of you in the 1980s when I was a firefighter/EMT. I see nothing's changed. Unfortunately, other people are on the road, and I've seen douchebags like this kill them and walk out of court on bail the next day.
