Message: Yeah the part looks just like that but at the bottom of the U there is another piece making it a Y pipe.
My current Syock Y-pipe is crimped/smashed at the Y section where it combines into 1 pipe.

That's where I took the measurements in pictures one and two.
Replacing the y-pipe is a no brainer.

Message: But I can't replace the whole Y-Pipe because of the Cat Converters on the `05 Dakota.
If the Cat's were seperated then I think it could be done.

Message: Well, I ordered the y-pipe today for $146 with free shipping. I would say that is a pretty good deal. N56629, I would suppose that you had to heat up the factory Y-pipe with a torch to get it off, right??

Message: Not on mine but you do need to drop the entire exhaust system or at least get it off the hangers. It may help if you have an oxy/acetylene torch. If it looks really rusty it probably is and you may want to have an exhaust shop remove the cat pipe from the y-pipe. If that is the case remove as much as you can, have them remove only the cat pipe and drive it home without the cat pipe. Of course once it's removed they could just push it back on clamp it lightly or not at all. The charge should be minimal at an hourly rate.

Message: I think I will just wait till school starts in two weeks. Having a torch handy and being able to walk under it when its on the lift will make it 100 times easier. How come you had to disconect the exhaust? Mine looks like there is enough clearance to just pull it forward once the pipe is loose from the cat pipe. Do you think that cat pipe is restrictive too because I aslo ordered a Magnaflow cat.

Message: I don't think the pipe is restrictive but most people think the cat is. I'm kind of neutral on that. I'm sure I'll add a high flow cat somewhere down the line.
I couldn't get my y-pipe to move forward enough. The way the exhaust hung it wanted to move forward. With some help you can probably do it but I couldn't do it by myself.
